AN: Yet another random idea that popped into my head. May not finish it, or even continue it, but meh. I already started chapter two...anyway.

Italics = flashback. Not necessarily in chronological order.

Also, just in case anyone actually cares, Rewritten will be updated soon. Really, it will be!

Light footfalls, the sound muffled by soft snow. Shining fae, sporting semi-transparent wings on their bare backs. One blonde, her bright blue eyes shimmering. The other, a shadow. A ghost. A sad, sad sight.

The blonde looked into her companion's hollow eyes and ran her fingers through her long, black hair.

"I'm sorry you're gone, Heather."

"Come on, Linds, just tell me what's wrong."

Beth shook her friend's shoulder gently. Lindsay just continued to look sadly at the wooden table in front of her.

She couldn't tell her. She couldn't.

"Is it your hair?" Beth asked. "Are your roots showing?"

Lindsay shook her head. Did everyone really think she was that shallow?

...Well, she did hate when her roots showed, but that wasn't the problem.

"Is it Tyler? Did he break up with you?"

Ha, Tyler. Why did she ever agree to go out with him? His name was impossible to remember. She shook her head again.

"Then what is it, Lindsay?" Beth threw her arms up in frustration. She normally didn't get annoyed with her best friend, but her refusal to say anything was becoming infuriating.

Lindsay simply shook her head.

A pale, emaciated woman appeared before the two. Teal-streaked black hair curtained her face. Black cloth was draped over her body like a sort of dress.

"Bring her back," the woman commanded. "She does not belong with you."

The blue-eyed fae shook her head wildly. "No. I won't!"

She gestured towards Heather. "Don't you see her eyes? She is no longer yours."

"I don't care what you say."

The woman shrugged. "Whatever." she began to walk away, then turned her head to look behind her.

"Just remember that no one defies the Queen."

"Lindsay?"

"What?"

Beth breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, good. You just looked...so far away."

"I was just remembering something."

"So, are you gonna tell me-"

"I can't, I really can't. I'd tell you if I could."

She held her lover close. "You're happier with me. Right, Feather?"

Heather didn't respond.

"Right?"

She just continued to look at the blonde with her hollow eyes. Her mouth curved in a sad sort of smile.

"You're not happy with me now?"

No response.

She tried not to cry.

"You really want to know."

It had been so long, Beth had almost forgotten what they were talking about. When she remembered, she nodded enthusiastically.

"Fine. I hate keeping secrets from you..."

Lindsay looked straight into Beth's eyes. Her eyes shimmered with an ethereal light and seemed so serious, so focused, so...strange; Beth had a strong urge to look away.

"She was cursed," Lindsay whispered. "They killed her and they took her from me."

The sound of rustling leaves, the forest temporarily lit by a blueish light. "Hello, Lindsay."

"Courtney," Lindsay growled, not turning around.

"The one and only Queen," she said smugly. "I believe you have something that belongs to me."
