Disclaimer: I don't own anyone. This was written for the My Other Half Challenge at HPFC forums.
The challenge: My given pairing was Scorpius/Lucy, with the prompts 'malevolent', 'photo', and 'holiday'.
Snap!
The shutter clicks, and Lucy sighs as she skates over to the edge of the ice rink, one eyebrow raised.
"I thought I told you not to take pictures of me!"
Scorpius grins charmingly at her. "Sorry, Luce. But I'm getting one of every Weasley and, wouldn't you know it, you just so happen to be a Weasley."
She makes a face at him. "Let me see it."
He holds it out of her reach. "You know the rule. Only after I get it developed."
Lucy huffs. "What if it's a bad picture?" she demands. "I have a reputation to keep, you know! It's not easy looking gorgeous all the time."
Scorpius snorts. "Bet it's not easy being modest, either," he says, smirking at her.
She reaches over the glass barrier separating the skaters from the watchers and smacks him.
"For a Weasley, you don't have much of an arm," he teases, not even having the grace to fake pain.
Lucy glowers. "You wanna see just how 'much of an arm' I've got, Scorpius Malfoy?" she threatens.
Scorpius rolls his eyes, and then, quick as a wink, raises his camera and snaps another photo.
"Malfoy!"
"I just needed a picture of that particular mask of yours," he says nonchalantly.
Lucy stumbles on her way to the exit. "Mask?" she demands, bewildered. "What mask?"
Scorpius raises silver-grey eyes to hers through the glass wall. "That malevolent mask of yours." His voice is, for a change, soft and quiet, but his words ring a chord in her.
"What makes you think it's a mask?" Lucy asks, arms crossed, looking away. She knows if she stares at him, she's gonna get those stupid butterflies again, dancing in her stomach and in her heart, making her believe that she's in love with him.
Because, y'know, she's not.
(Even if he does have gorgeous eyes and a smile that can melt butter)
"Oh, come on, Lucy," Scorpius says, diffusing the tension with that same, butter-melting (heartmelting) smile of his. "I've known you for six years now. Do you really think you can fool me by acting arrogant and violent anymore?"
There's no glass wall between them anymore; the two are standing on opposite sides of the doorway into the ice rink, her balancing on the ice, him firmly on normal ground.
Lucy cracks a smile. "It keeps everyone else away. I don't know why it doesn't work on you."
He lifts his hand, and she carefully, hesitantly, slides her own into it. He helps her out of the ice rink, and they sit down on a nearby bench, their bodies nearly touching, and both hearts beating as if it's going out of style.
"Look," he says, showing her the screen of his camera, scrolling through past photos.
Most are of her, snapped when she wasn't paying attention. Some are from Hogwarts, some in the Burrow, but in all, she's laughing or smiling. There's never a mask.
"Happy Holidays, Luce," Scorpius grins, and kisses her.
Author's Notes: ^ That is exactly 500 words. That wasn't even part of the challenge, but whatever XD Scorpius/Lucy, while definitely not my favorite Scorpius pairing (or my favorite Lucy pairing, for that matter) are kinda cute, and I hope I wrote them well! If you liked it, please review and let me know what you think! Thanks!
