MEMORIES

It was Valentine's Day. A day for lovers to confess their love for each other, or just to enjoy the company of the other.

And it was no different for her.

She hummed a little tune to herself as she applied makeup, getting ready for the date that he was taking her.

Putting on the final touches to her lipstick, she spun around in the bathroom, checking her appearance. Satisfied, she smiled.

She walked to the living room to retrieve her handbag, which was sitting beside a small bookshelf. But before she took the bag, something caught her eye.

She smiled nostalgically at the silver coffin-shaped pendant lying on top of the shelf. Slowly, she picked it up, her fingers caressing the carving of the rose as her eyes admired the details of the craftsmanship.

She remembered that Valentine's Day many years ago that she spent with him. How happy she was in his company. But now, that day became just a memory somewhere in her heart.

With a final caress, she put the keepsake down. She eyes traveled along and rested on two Earth Alliance hats sitting neatly in a row.

With slightly shaking hands, she picked one up. It was his. Even though the two hats looked identical, she could always tell which one was his.

As her fingers traced the designs on the hat, she remembered his smile. It saddened her a little that she never had a chance to spend a Valentine's Day wit him. But really, when it came down to it, it was just another day. One doesn't need a special day to share his love. At least that's what he told her once. And he was right. But still…

A male voice from the direction of the door interrupted her thoughts, asking if she was ready to go yet. Shaking herself out of her thoughts, she replied, saying she'd be there soon.

Replacing the hat gently, she picked up her handbag and turned to go, but not before a final glance at the top of the bookshelf, at the remnants of her past memories.

They were special, those two men who had such a great impact on her life; the two soldiers who had shared many precious memories with her, memories that she will never forget, memories that hold a special place in her heart.

As she walked towards the door and the man waiting there, the afternoon light caught the diamond on her ring finger and reflected back to the bookshelf. She could feel them smiling at her, and she smiled back in return.

Why am I writing Valentine's stuff at this time? Er, I dunno, just found random inspiration I guess. Who's that guy, Waltfeld? I dunno. It could be, if you want it to be; or it could be someone else. The important thing is that she moved on with her life (this is many years after the war). Murrue is strong enough to let go of her past (unlike Shinn) without forgetting it, and those two men that she has loved, but she has to move on with her life.
