Katia sat on her bed in her hotel room contemplating about some one. She was in Suna, for some reason or another. The hokage had sent her here. She sighed as a memory came to mind.

Flashback (ten years):

A five-year-old Katia walked through the streets of Suna. Her dream of becoming a ninja was not as complete as it had been. She had recently been blinded by her stepmother. Suddenly, Katia tripped on someone's foot. She fell forward as the man began to laugh. Katia waited to hit the sandy ground. But before it could happen a bunch of sand caught her and stood her up. Katia started to cry as she heard the man running away from something.

"Don't cry," said a sad voice, "that man is always mean."

Katia looked up, wiping tears from her face. "Thank you," she said meekly, "I'm Katia." She smiled.

"I'm Gaara," the boy said, waiting for her to start yelling like most people did. But Katia smiled.

"It's nice to meet you Gaara," she said nicely. Gaara looked at her like she was crazy. He just noticed that she was blind. "I like you," she continued, "will you be my friend?"

"R-really? Me? Are you sure?" he asked, wondering if she really meant it. She seemed sincere enough.

"Sure, I'm sure! Why?" she answered.

"Well most people don't like me very much," he answered back.

"Well that's okay," she said happily, "because I like just fine!"

"If you could see," Gaara started, "you would try to stay away from me."

"Well then I'm glad I cant see," Katia retaliated, "because if I could I probably would not have met such a nice person today!"

"Do you mean it? You really like me?" he asked again.

"Yup!" she replied, nodding her head to stress her point.

"Thank you! Thank you very much!" he said, hugging her.

Fast forward 6 ½ months

Katia and Gaara were at the park swinging.

"Gaara," Katia said suddenly.

"Yes?" he answered.

"I-my dad said we had to move soon," she said, "I'll be leaving. But don't worry. I'll come back. We'll see each other again!"

Gaara was saddened by the loss of his only friend. He tried to stifle a sniffle but it didn't work, "you won't be gone forever?"

"No! I'll be back! I promise," she said, holding out her pinky, "pinky swear!" she added.

"Okay!" he replied, linking his pinky with hers, "pinky swear!" then they broke apart.

"So, when do you leave?" Gaara asked.

"Actually tomorrow," she replied.

"I'm going to miss you,' he said.

"Me too," she replied. Suddenly Gaara hugged her. She hugged him back and they continued playing.

The next day, when Katia was about to leave, she was waiting for Gaara to show up. In her arms she held a stuffed brown teddy bear. She planned to give it to him.

"Katia!" a voice said behind her. Katia flipped around, a huge smile on her face. Gaara had finally arrived. "Here," he said handing her a large stuffed tiger, "don't forget about me."

"I wont," she said, "here, this is for you." She handed him the bear. Both children smiled widely. "I have to go now," Katia said, and gave him one last hug before getting in the back of the cart. She waved to him as the cart drove off.

End flashback

"I should go look for him," Katia decided. The young kunoichi stood from her bed and left the hotel in search of her long ago best friend.
