Tomboy
Sometimes, Korra wondered how she could have gotten a boyfriend, being the way she was.
Most girls she knew were bubbly, gentle, and wore light colours.
Korra was the exact opposite.
She was gruff, in the most friendliest way. She loved sports and loved to brawl, leaving her with the muscular physic she had now. Being the Avatar and knowing all four types of bending kept her in shape.
She couldn't get other girls, and fashion bored her. It was Water Tribe to be more slightly athletic than other nations. They had to hunt for their food. If she weren't the Avatar, she'd fit in more with the boys than the women in the healing hut.
Even though she was her athletic, gruff self, she got together with Tarrlok.
"Tarrlok…? Do I embarrass you?"
The Councilman looked up from his book. "Oh, spirits, honey, no…! What makes you say that?"
"It's just, I don't know… I mean, I'm not like other girls."
One of his brows raised up. "Care to elaborate on that?"
"Just look at me…!" She flexed her arms. "I have people growing inside of my arms. I can probably lift heavier weights than you, and I'm supposed to be your girlfriend."
She laid her head on his lap as she plopped on the couch.
"I'm not like other girls. I don't wear fancy clothes, wear makeup… I'm scared that you'll think I'm not feminine enough and one day you'll get up and leave me."
There was a long pause. Soon, Tarrlok's laughter echoed throughout the room. Korra's brow narrowed.
"That's what this was about? I thought it was about the fan magazines the paparazzi had been writing about…"
Looking down he smiled at her. "Korra, it doesn't matter who you are or what you do. I didn't start to have feelings for you because you were the Avatar. I fell in love with you for you."
"And you're right," he continued. "You're not like other girls. You're the Avatar, and people will treat you differently at times because of it, but you must not let it define who you are."
Sometimes it payed off to have a boyfriend who was older than her. Despite Tarrlok's huge ego, he can actually be insightful at times. Tears in her eyes, she embraced her boyfriend. She thanked the spirits for sending her Tarrlok.
Besides her physical insecurities, she was glad Tarrlok still held her hand when the gossip magazines were at its highest.
After she parted from their kiss, her lips turned into a smirk.
"So, about that rematch you owe me… Backyard. Outside. Fifteen minutes?"
