In the hospital Rouge was barely awake when she heard the door. "You have a visitor. It might be your last." The doctor said. "Okay." Rouge said as Knuckles came in. "Hi." Knuckles said. "I see you came. Took you long enough." Rouge said. "Sorry. I didn't know until Shadow told me." Knuckles said. "It's okay. The doctors said it might be my last day alive." Rouge explained. "I doubt it. You're strong enough." Knuckles said. "If I was strong enough I wouldn't be here." Rouge said. "You won't die." Knuckles said. "I wish I could believe you, but I can't because I'm going to die." Rouge said. "But you aren't." Knuckles said. "They said it themselves Knuckles. See the chart?" Rouge asked pointing to the chart. "Yeah so?" Knuckles asked. "It's slowing down. I'm pretty sure it means I'm dying." Rouge said. "I guess you're right." Knuckles said feeling hot tears welling in his eyes. "But before I go I want you to know something." Rouge said. "Yeah?" Knuckles asked. "I...I...I love you." Rouge said. "I love you too." Knuckles said as the two kissed passionately. "Goodbye Knucklehead." Rouge said as she died there on the spot. "Goodbye forever Rouge the Bat." Knuckles said as he left the room heartbroken.
