Harry

"You wanted to see me Professor?" an extremely nervous Harry Potter asked.

"Yes Potter, I assume you're still taking Miss Patil to the ball." McGonagall asked.

"Yes Professor." Potter said blushing slightly.

"And Mr Weasley is taking the other Miss Patil?"

"Yes." She frowned slightly at this. Poor Granger.

"You may go then Potter. Close the door on your way out." Harry left.

Fleur

"Miss Delacour, I assume you have a date for the ball." McGonagall said surveying the blonde girl relaxing in the arm chair.

"Yes, I get many offers and now I take Roger Davies." Fleur said. "One boy screamed at me. I would have accepted but he ran off before I could. Tall and ginger."

"Yes, I'm sure it must have been difficult for you to choose after Weasley s screaming." McGonagall said dryly.

Fleur sat down and immediately started discussing her feelings for the Hogwarts boys. McGonagall sighed. She really didn't want to discuss the veela's feelings and was rather glad to see the blonde leave the office.

Cedric

"Ah, Mr Diggory. Who is your date for the ball?"

"Cho Chang." Cedric muttered blushing furiously.

McGonagall made a note to have Snape check that his love potions were still intact.

"You know you are dancing first, Diggory."

"Yes." He said blushing again.

"You may go then." She said.

Krum

"Master Krum, who is your date for the ball?" she asked almost dreading the answer.

"Hermoninee Granger." He boasted.

McGonagall nearly fell off her chair.

"Hermione?" she asked.

"Yes, is there a problem with this?" he asked his eyebrows knitting into a frown.

"No no, you know she is very clever?" she asked the Bulgarian.

"Yes I see her read. I ask in library and she accepts so I am very happy." He said.

"Do you like books?" she asked.

"No, I like Hermione." He said clearly confused.

"You may go."

He left frowning and McGonagall stumbled towards the staff room. She sank into a chair and Flitwick, Sprout and Moody walked over to her.

"Are you alright Minerva?" Sprout asked.

"Viktor Krum is taking Hermione Granger to the ball." She stammered.

"Really?" Sprout asked.

"Yes, she is so clever but she accepts. I can't understand it." McGonagall said.

"Well he is famous." Flitwick said thoughtfully.

"What of Weasley?" Moody asked gruffly.

"I don't think he knows." McGonagall replied. "Not yet anyway. I've not had to stop those two from hexing each other in weeks. I'll be surprised if they ever talk again. Poor Potter, he has enough on his plate at the minute without those two arguing."

"I am happy for her. She is clever and pretty, she deserves the rest of the school to see that. But can Krum actually read?" Flitwick asked.

"Can Weasley read?" Moody joked. They laughed but still McGonagall was uneasy. She had been so sure Weasley and Granger would get together this time. Clearly she'd been wrong. Still if there was another ball she would make sure they went together and Albus could arrange the dancing.
