Harm stood in front of Mac's apartment door. He had overheard Mac's half of the phone conversation in the office that morning. Webb had broken up with her. He could hear the muffled sobs from the other side of the door and felt his heart breaking for her. But he knew that it was now or never. He hesitated only a moment before knocking.

"No rush

though I need your touch

I won't rush your heart

until you feel

on solid ground

until your strength is found

girl"

Mac sat in the dark, her eyes red and swollen from crying. Webb had left her that morning. He called her at the office and told her it was over. She could hear a woman giggling in the background. Just thinking about it made her want to cry again. So she did. The light from the streetlamps was peering through the window, casting a dim and eerie glow on the room. She was jolted from her thoughts by a knock at the door. She shuffled to the door in her sock-feet and opened it, to reveal the man that would rescue her.

"Hey Mac." he whispered and layed a hand on her shoulder. Mac began to cry again and Harm pulled her into his arms. He stepped inside and closed the door behind them. "Oh Mac." She clung to his shirt and cried, silent sobs racking her body. "Sshhhhh, I'm here. I'll never let you get hurt again."

"I'll fill those canyons in your soul

like a river leads you home

and I'll walk a step behind

in the shadows so you shine

just ask it will be done

and I will prove my love

until you're sure that I'm the one"

"Harm. I..." She couldn't make anything come out before she began to cry again.

"Sarah...it's ok. No one will ever hurt you again. I'll never leave. I'm gonna stay forever."

"Why?" She looked up at him with her red, tear-filled eyes.

"Because I'm in love with you Sarah Mackenzie."

Mac stepped out of his arms and began to back away. "I..I can't. Not yet, not again." She looked at him, with obvious doubt and fear in her eyes.

"Somebody else

was here before

he treated you unkind

the broken wings

need time to heal

before a heart can fly

girl"

"I know Sarah. I know that you aren't ready. And that's ok. I'm not gonna push you. I'm just gonna be here for you. Just don't push me away, not now." Harm crossed the room to meet her. He looked in her eyes and put his hands on her shoulders. "I'm not gonna rush you, I'm just gonna be here. I promise." Mac nodded and stepped into his waiting embrace. He held her to him and began to sing a soft song in her ear.

"I'll fill those canyons in your soul

like a river leads you home

and I'll walk a step behind

in the shadows so you shine

just ask it will be done

and I will prove my love

until you're sure that I'm the one"

Mac wrapped her arms around him and sighed. For the moment, all had been forgotten. It was just Harm and Sarah. No Webb, no regs, just a man and a woman. "I trust you Harm."

"Trust in me

and you'll find a heart so true

all I wanna do is

give the best of me to you

and stand beside you"

And they stood, wrapped tightly in each others arms, oblivivous to the world around them.

"I do love you Harm." Mac whispered

"And I love you Sarah." The moonlight shone through the window, casting slivers of light around the apartment. Through the silent night, you could hear the faint strains of a song in the air.

"Just ask it will be done

and I will prove my love

until you're sure that I'm the one."
