Christmas Dance
It was the sixth grade Christmas dance that was held in the gym every year. Everybody was out on the floor dancing and having a good time, except three boys that were sitting on the bleachers, watching them.
"Oscar, Lanny, what's wrong with us?" Matt turned to ask.
"We couldn't get dates." Oscar sighed heavily. Lanny agreed as he nodded his head slowly.
"But Reggie got one." Matt turned to see his other friend dancing with their date.
"Um, Matt, you could've too, you know."
Once again Lanny agreed.
"Yeah, well…"
Oscar stopped him, "Melina would've said yes if you'd asked."
Matt disagreed, "I don't think so." Even if he asked right now, he couldn't because she wasn't there.
Another boy suddenly came up and laughed at the three. "Losers."
All of them rolled their eyes and continued to chat.
"We're not losers." Matt said positively. "We're just…"
"The misfits of Christmas." Oscar seemed sad. Lanny did too.
"No we're not." Matt looked over at Lanny and understood him instantly. "I know Lanny. We need to be having fun. But don't you think we'll look kinda silly out there with all the others that actually have dates?" Yes, it was a fact. Everyone had a date, even the bully Haywood that laughed at them earlier.
Reggie came up to them. "Guys, what are you doing? Why so glum?"
"Why do you care? You have a date." Matt sounded sort of snobby in a way.
"You're my best friends, that's why." Reggie explained. "Kari won't mind if I hang with you guys for a while."
"Alright."
The three, now four friends went out on the floor.
"I feel awkward." Oscar said. Lanny agreed.
"Reggie, let's ditch this dance and go outside. There's stuff we can actually do out there." Matt said. He couldn't figure why he didn't think of that sooner. It doesn't even cold in the middle of December because they lived in California.
Reggie sighed. "Whatever. Let's go."
They started walking toward the door. Someone stepped in and asked, "Where you guys going?"
"Out." Matt said. "Now move!"
"Wow, you are sure demanding."
"I don't have time for this. I want to leave. I hate this place!"
All the friends, except Reggie agreed.
"They're bummed because don't have any dates." Reggie explained.
The person that stepped in the door was Melina. "Matt, stay. I'll dance with you." She smiled.
"What about us?" Oscar said as he pointed back and forth to Lanny and himself.
"We'll dance with you guys."
The two of them looked over and seen two twin girls. Oscar and Lanny smiled at each other, then went to them.
Reggie just smiled. He knew his pals would have fun sometime in the night. He walked off to find his date.
"Melina, thanks for showing up." Matt said.
"No problem. Now let's dance."
The two walked to the middle of the floor just as a slow song came on.
"I love this song." Melina said. It was Whatever It Takes by Lifehouse.
Matt put his hands around her waist, and she propped hers around the back of his neck. They began dancing.
"So you really felt that bad?"
He shrugged. "Yes."
"Matt, you should've ask me. I wanted you to. When you didn't, I wasn't for sure if I should go to this or not."
"You really wanted me to." He frowned. "I'm sorry. I should've. I'm such an idiot."
"No you're not. You were just scared, and I can understand that."
"Can?"
"Can." She smiled. "I like you… a lot."
A smile came on his face again. "Me too."
Leaning in, she gave him a soft kiss on the lips. When she pulled away, she looked up and seen a mistletoe. She smiled once again, and then laid her head on his shoulder.
The End.
A/N - I felt this was blah and rushed. I didn't really have any ideas. But I posted it anyway.
This is probably AU. Matt's character is sorta out of character. Since when does he care what other people think. LOL!
Hope you enjoyed.
