He heard the news.
The news that seemed to shudder him to million of pieces; Raven was in the hospital. Not in her room where she is supposed to be. Hell, not even in the medical bay.
After hours of driving, he found himself standing in the middle of Jump city hospital.
"Raven!" he shouted, but he wasn't sure it came out anything more than a whisper, all he heard is the noisy sound of the hospital around him. All of a sudden, a hand on his shoulder made him spin around to face-.
"Robin"
"Speedy, what're you doing shouting in the middle of the hospital? I could hear you from the third floor" Robin said, holding a cup of coffee and offering him a half smile. Then he started walking, Speedy followed him, knowing that he is leading him to see Raven. "Rae is unconscious, she can't hear you, and even if she can, did you really think she'll shout back" Robin's humor didn't seem to affect Speedy one bit, at the moment he felt lost and just needed to see Raven.
Or maybe he should not have had came here at all.
Behind the glass -where Speedy stood not able to bring himself to go in the room- Raven laid there looking as fragile as ever, from what he can see, multiple bruises covered her arms and face, and she was hooked up to many IVs and an oxygen mask.
"This isn't right, she should be healing herself"
"She hadn't moved since the explosion, she might of used to much energy during the fight" Answered Robin from behind him.
"So where's the rest of the team"
"I sent them home, Cyborg and Beastboy needed to look after the city, and Starfire…" Robin paused and walked two steps toward where speedy was standing -so now he was standing next to him- still looking at Raven "…she didn't want to see Raven like this" looking at Speedy he smiled "they're best friends you know".
At this speedy snorted and looked down "Ironically". A few minutes past then Speedy suddenly looked up to meet Robin's gaze "bee and Aqualad didn't want to come here either, they made an excuse saying they needed to look after the city" his eyes narrowed and he looked at Raven's direction again "you should of seen them Robin, they were so scared to see her like this, all small and broken" a small chuckle "it really ruins your prospection about the strong, stubborn Raven we all know".
Robin stayed silent, not knowing what to say.
"Hey, can I go inside?"
"Go ahead; what're you waiting for…unless you want me to hold your hand"
Inside, Speedy approached the Raven slowly, and sat down on the chair next to her bed. He wanted her to know he was there and for her to wake up and tell him that she is ok. With a soft smile he gently grabbed her hand.
"Hey Rae, it's Roy…your handsome friend" no response "listen, you gorra wake up soon 'cause if you don't, I'll tell everyone that you're my girlfriend, and we all know how much Beastboy is gonna enjoy making jokes about that" still nothing. "I love you".
He knew she will wake up sooner or later, and when she does…he will still be here.
Yup Raven and Speedy are very good friends but they're not together. So did he mean the "I love you" in a friendly way?
