Weightless Shoulders
Most people did not know that Seamus Finnegan was the son of the ex-Ballycastle Bats Keeper, Ana Murphy.
Ana Murphy had been Gryffindor's star Keeper during her Hogwarts years; she had been on the team a total of five years, three of them as captain. With her as Keeper, the Gryffindor Quidditch team failed to lose the Quidditch Cup.
After graduating Hogwarts, nearly every team in England's league offered Ana a spot on their team, and, after much deliberation, joined the Ballycastle Bats. She played for the Bats for a total of seven years before her surprising resign. Only those close to her knew it was because she wanted to settle down and marry the muggle she'd been dating.
Seamus only told two people about his mother's previous career: his best friend, Dean Thomas, and his wife, Lavender Brown. People whose opinions of him wouldn't change because of his lineage.
He'd decided to keep it a secret after he saw his classmates' reaction to Harry Potter. And Seamus didn't want that. He just wanted to go to Hogwarts and make friends because they like him; not people wanted autographs.
Not to mention he didn't want the pressure of his mother's Quidditch career on his shoulders. He was a fair flyer, but nowhere near good enough to make the Quidditch team. Besides, he liked playing for the playing, not for the competition.
Some things, Seamus concurred, where better left a secret.
