This oneshot is just a story that digs deeper into Shadow's past. Shadow is a made up teenage superhero. She is also one of the main characters from the fanfic "The Tale of Two Girls" written by my friend TotallyGurly a.k.a. Vana, the other main character from the fanfic. And don't worry guys, she knows I'm posting this :P.
By the way, you'll understand why this is categorized as Teen Titans if you read "The Tale of Two Girls".

Macro was a villain, an evil sorcerer. He had traveled to earth to retrieve an ancient gem containing great powers. He arrived at earth only to discover that the gem was accidentally found by a teenager named Ryan Neri. Ryan had unknowingly unlocked the powers of the gem, but because he was just an average human, the gem gave him special powers.
Macro found out and went after Ryan only to be defeated by Ryan's newfound powers. Macro swore allegiance on Ryan and vanished.
Ryan eventually met a woman named Taylor and years later, married her. He never told her about his powers because he knew she wouldn't approve.
Later, they had a daughter named Rissa. At the age of 4, while Taylor was at work, Rissa discovered her powers. Ryan found out and taught his daughter how to use her powers, explaining that it took 4 years for her powers to develop and that her mother should never know about her newly discovered powers.
When Rissa turned 6, she and her father went on a weekend camping trip, something Rissa always wanted to do with her father. It was a quiet night before a loud explosion woke the two up. It was Macro. He had grown a lot stronger and had managed to locate Ryan. Ryan did his best to protect his daughter. Eventually, Macro was defeated, but not with one last blow that killed Ryan. Ryan died protecting his daughter.
Rissa went unconscious for a short while and developed amnesia. She remembered her powers and something kept telling her not to tell her mother, but Rissa couldn't remember anything about her father. Her mother had told her that Ryan passed when she was just a baby and continued her life thinking that she never got to know her father. Little did Rissa know that Macro found out about her and was waiting for the right time to kill her, just as he did to her father.
When Rissa was 12, her and her mother were at the mall. At that moment some criminals blasted the wall in a robber attempt. Taylor was right next to the explosion and a pile of rubble was about to crush her. Rissa quickly reacted and used a purple fireball to destroy the rubble before it could crush Taylor, saving her mother's life.
During the process, Taylor discovered her daughter's powers and threatened to call the authorities on her 'weird' daughter, ignoring the fact that her 'weird' daughter had just saved her life. Rissa ran away. Using her powers for good, she became a superhero and went by the name Shadow. She soon met up with Vana, another teenage superhero, in Steel City and the two became a team.
Shadow is currently 14 years old. She still doesn't remember her father and had never spoken with her mother after she ran away. Therefore, Shadow had completely no idea when Taylor became very ill and passed away. She also doesn't know that when she ran away, her mother got re-married to someone name Aaron Grey and they both had a son named Lyle, who is now 5 years old and is Shadow's half-brother. Aaron died in a car accident a year before Taylor became ill. After Taylor's death, Lyle went to live with his aunt, Aaron's older sister, in Gotham City. Neither Lyle nor Aaron knew about Shadow because Taylor never wanted a 'weird' child. She wanted to forget her only daughter.
