When they came for her, Mrs Hudson knew exactly what she had to do.

Oh, she wasn't going to try and take them on herself. She wasn't that foolish. But she knew that they'd get what they deserved when her boys came home.

"Don't do anything reckless, Mrs Hudson. They certainly won't be lenient with you. Struggle a little, make it seem natural, but don't put yourself at risk."

Sherlock would know what was happening within moments of entering the building. There would be no surprises.

"We'll work out what's happening. Well, I will anyway. You can leave some, ah, clues. If you like. But they won't get the best of us."

He would know what they were looking for. And he would know that they'd never find it.

"I have every faith that you'll keep it safe, Mrs Hudson. I can hide nothing from you."

Those men wouldn't suspect a thing. They may know the reputation of her two tenants, but she was just a scared little old woman. She could never be a threat to them.

"Just keep crying, keep shaking. They can't do anything – you're their bargaining chip – but it won't do any harm if they lower their guard."

She knew she'd be just fine. Her boys would keep her safe.

"Don't worry, Mrs Hudson. Whatever happens, whatever I say or do, you don't have to be afraid. We will get you away from them. I promise you that."

She wasn't bothered about a few cuts and bruises – no one got to her age without a few bumps and scrapes. But she knew her boys would most definitely be bothered. It was almost enough to make her feel sorry for these men. Almost.

"But if you have the slightest mark on you..."

She had known the risks when she'd offered Sherlock the flat. Something like this was always going to happen. It probably would again.

But for Sherlock, and for John, she wasn't going to let it chase her away.

After all, without her there would be no them. And without them...who knew what chaos would erupt?

England would fall indeed.

Inspired by the absolute fury on Sherlock's face when he worked out they had Mrs Hudson.
