Kaoru watched as his brother climbed into the limo with Haruhi. He put a small smile on his face and waved as they drove away. He then turned and headed into the mansion, shutting the door behind him. The maids had left for the night, leaving him alone with his thoughts.

He wandered into his room, and shut the door. Just once, I wish that Hikaru would look at me like he does at Haruhi. That he would love me the way he does her. His eyes filled with bitter tears.

The act they put on at school was just that, an act. At least, it was for Hikaru.

For Kaoru, it was his reality. He loved his brother, not just as a sibling, but as a man. He longed for Hikaru to love him back, but knew it was hopeless.

It was obvious that his twin was taken with Haruhi, and he wasn't going to get in the way of that.

He reached under his bed, and pulled the little six shot revolver out from where he'd stashed it.

He flicked the safety off, and cocked it before putting the barrel of the gun in his mouth. I'm sorry, Hikaru. I hope you find happiness with her. It's what you deserve. He pulled the trigger.

Hikaru froze.

They were half-way to their destination, and he couldn't help but think there was something wrong with his twin. "Turn the car around!"

Haruhi looked at Hikaru. "Is something wrong?" She asked softly. He nodded tensely. The ride back was so tense, she could have cut the tension with a knife.

The car had barely stopped when Hikaru bolted out of the vehicle. He tore inside, and ran to his brother's room. The door was locked.

"Kaoru? Kaoru! Open the door!" He rattled the doorknob frantically.

The feeling was intensifying. He backed up and put his foot next to the doorknob. The door splintered, and swung open.

What he saw wrenched a scream from Hikaru.

Kaoru, lying in a pool of his own blood, a gun lying in his hand.

Hikaru ran to his twin and saw the bullet hole in the back of Kaoru's head.

Hikaru's legs gave out and he hit the ground, hugging his twin to him.

A gasp of pain and horror dragged Hikaru's gaze to the door, where Haruhi had clapped a hand over her mouth as tears ran freely down her face.

Hikaru looked back at his twin. "Why? Why?! Why did you do this? What were you thinking?!"

He screamed. Haruhi knelt next to Hikaru and gently took Kaoru from his arms, and laid him gently on the bed.

Two weeks later

Hikaru stood in front of a marble headstone, head bowed.

The funeral had been torture, but in the end, they had laid Kaoru to rest.

The priest patted Hikaru on the shoulder and told him that Kaoru was in a better place.

Hikaru hoped so.

Haruhi stood next to him, letting him mourn in silence. She threaded her fingers through his, and squeezed his hand gently.

He took solace in that small gesture. "Goodbye, Kaoru. I'll miss you."

A/N- I honestly have no idea where this little drabble came from. I'll admit, it's a lot more depressing than I thought. Well, anyway, read, review, and let me know what you think!
