He'd played his last card and he knew it. It had been a desperate final move, and it had failed.
Dean looked up at the grandfather clock, its loud tick counting down his last seconds.
The huge looming shadows of the Hellhounds blotted out the gleeful expression on Lilith's face, the fear and despair in Sam's eyes. Swallowed everything until all he could see was the gleam of yellowed teeth and slavering jaws. Stinking breath, hot on his skin, a promise of burning.
This was his still point in a turning world, and his dance of death about to begin.
A/n - I'd half written this one last November when we had card as a prompt but I never finished it - so that must be a record even for me!
