Chapter 1: Catching Up

"I think I should leave you two alone," Gilan whispered as he quietly slipped out of the room in order to let Vontade and Graza talk privately without his intrusion.

Suddenly Vontade felt very awkward. He barely knew her and had only learned her name less than half an hour ago.

"So, um... How have you been?" Vontade ventured first.

"I haven't really been up to much. I had to move away from where I used to live for obvious reasons, but what have you been up to?"

"Gosh, so much has happened I don't know where to start, but I guess from the beginning is as good a place as any..."

"And that's what happened, up until now," Vontade concluded.

"That's horrible! You've really matured quite fast haven't you?" Graza exclaimed.

"Yes, I had to. Otherwise I might have been cast out and in a worst position. I'm not sure if that's even possible. Anyway, now that we've caught up I've noticed it's getting a bit late," Vontade said, glancing out the window.

"Oh, right, we should go find Gilan," Graza suggested.

"Right," Vontade strided out of the small house and found Blaze to be nowhere in sight.

"Oh, he must have decided to stay at a nearby Inn," Graza commented, "Why don't you stay here then?"

"I guess that's alright."

"Great, I'll pull out the extra bed."

...

That night Vontade tossed and turned a lot, unable to sleep. Graza noticed and went over to Vontade's side to sit on the bed.

"Vontade, is something wrong?" Graza whispered.

"No, of course not," Vontade lied. In truth he was worried about what the Wanderers were planning to do, and especially if they found out where his mother was. He was also curious about what had happened to Arrettez and wished he had bothered to ask Galo.

"If you think so Vontade," Graza decided not to bother him anymore and went to sleep on her own bed.

...

After an hour or two Vontade didn't feel any better, so he got quietly out of bed and slipped through the shadows towards the door. He quickly grabbed his bow and went outside. Being outside in the cool fresh air made Vontade feel a bit better, but something was wrong.

Suddenly, he felt like someone was watching him from behind and quickly turned on his heels. It was far too dark to see anything, though, and the action became pointless. Even so, Vontade quickly scoped his surroundings only to end up face to face with an uncloaked Arrettez.

Vontade jumped back and almost screamed, but Arrettez covered his mouth, "Vontade, now's not the time. You don't want to wake up your mother."

"But…" Vontade said slowly, while looking down at his feet.

"In the morning I'll explain. For now, please just trust me. I know it's hard, but I just need you to believe I can do something…" Arrettez almost looked like he had hesitated for a moment "good."

Vontade looked up at Arrettez with a thoughtful expression, "Okay, Arrettez. I'll believe you and we'll discuss this at breakfast."

"Thank you," Arrettez said, and actually smiled before quickly slipping into the shadows again and disappearing.

Well, Vontade thought, at least breakfast will be interesting.

A/N: Wow this was insanely short. Sorry about that, but I'll try to get back into the swing of things .
