Romantic Tales

They died together so they had lived together, and loved together, and they'll be reborn together. It was a romantic idea, but that was all it was in the end. Love wasn't this knight in shining armour that could save them both, or save the others. They couldn't save the others and that's all they'd been trying to do, in the end.

Or, he'd been trying to save everyone and she'd been trying to save him. And neither of them had saved anyone.

Yep, that about summed it up.

But the romantic spiel still grew, in the new world that rose from the ashes of destruction. Maybe because the last thing the code crown remembered was the boy and girl who'd come for it, the girl who'd cared enough for the boy to come after him, the boy who'd cared enough to wait when he realised there was no turning back for her…

They died together, because they cared, and that care must have been love because it was a light that shone and love was the only light in this darkness. And if they loved they must have lived together –

But, for the Code Crown, death was not an absolute. They would be somewhere in the new world. The new Digital World.

But it doesn't understand that humans don't exist in an endlessly cycling world. Their world is linear, and when they die, they don't return. And the world won't just pick up from where they left of, with another chance to stop it, to break the cycle.

It had been hopeless anyway, since the Digital World existed in that endless loop.

Or not hopeless, because the humans didn't. But they were dead now anyway.
