Mary Ann was doing the laundry. It was something she found comforting, something that reminded her of home, back in Kansas. But she wasn't altogether certain that Kansas was home anymore.
Maybe the island is home now, she thought. It sure felt like home.
The seven of them had been here for three years now, and they'd grown comfortable on the island. Sure, there wasn't any electricity, or hot running water, or anything like that, but they had learned to live without the amenities of civilization.
Not that they had much choice, what with being shipwrecked and all.
Mary Ann wondered briefly what the others were doing. The Professor would be in the Supply Hut, working on one of his experiments, and if Ginger wasn't helping him, she was either sunbathing or rehearsing a dramatic scene from some movie she was in once.
The Howells were probably relaxing in their private country club. They almost never did any real work, and even when they did, they always tried to get out of doing it. If they weren't there, Mr. Howell was likely golfing, with Gilligan as his caddy, and Mrs. Howell would be trying to decide what diamond to wear to dinner that night.
Skipper was either... Doing such chores as collecting firewood and fetching water, or he'd ordered Gilligan to do those same tasks while he took a nap.
Gilligan. Well, Gilligan could be anywhere, really. He might be checking the lobster traps in the lagoon, or collecting coconuts, or gone exploring, or maybe he was off playing with Gladys again. Whatever he was doing, Mary Ann wished she was with him. Gilligan was always so much fun to be around, even if he was a walking disaster.
Maybe when she was done the laundry, he would take her butterfly hunting. Mary Ann loved going butterfly hunting with Gilligan. He had such a wonderful appreciation for nature, and he was always so enthusiastic too.
Maybe Gilligan thinks of the island as home as well, Mary Ann thought. She'd have to ask him sometime.
She was doing it again. Thinking about Gilligan when she had work to do. Yet... She couldn't stop thinking of him. His beautiful blue eyes, his crooked smile...
She really had to finish the laundry.
