He hadn't expected to stay for so long – and he certainly didn't expect to spend so much time with the Avatar. She had grown on him, in her own way, all spunk and fierce flame – she was ready to learn firebending; she had been for nine years. But there's a time and a place for everything; and Iroh is not her teacher. He crouches in front of her to tell the news and her bottom lip puckers into a pout.

"It's not fair," she says, kicking the floor with the ball of her foot. "Why do you have to go now? We just got started!"

"Your teacher is coming all the way from the Fire Nation Capital to teach you; I was only supposed to stay here for a few weeks and await orders from Commander Bumi," he says, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"But you haven't shown me that one move yet! Or that other one!"

"I have to go Korra; your instructor will teach you those moves." He tries his best to smile, not wanting to leave her with a serious face but it still dips as he stands and her eyes stay locked on him – waiting for him to say he'll stay, but he can't.

"Goodbye, Korra."

He walks to the door.

"Wait!"

He doesn't turn around all the way, he doesn't have the time to as she runs and launches herself into the air, the earth sticking out in the middle of the room like a sore thumb and she lands on him, her arms wrapping around his neck in a tight hug that makes him fall to the floor. Yeah, she grew on him over the weeks, and he did to her as well. And at such a young age as she was, he shouldn't be surprised when her puckered pout pecks on his cheek.

But he is surprised.

"I'll be the best firebender ever when you get back," she says. "Just wait and see."

He smiles. This time it stays.

"I believe you."
