Losing my religion
July 11th. Chase hated this day more than any other day of the entire year. He always requested it off because he couldn't stand to be around other people. These trials only test your faith to see whether or not it is strong and pure. Your faith is being tested as fire tests gold and purifies it. And your faith is far more precious to the Lord than pure gold; so if your faith remains strong after being tested, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day of His return.
He had been so sure of his faith. He believed fully in God and higher power. He believed that if he prayed hard enough that his mum would get better. That his dad would come back. That life was just meaningless.
Sister Mary Katherine, his favorite sister, pulled him aside that day. July 11th. She told him that his mother had been called home to the Lord. And he felt nothing. He had submitted himself fully to the Lord, in an effort to save his mother, and he had failed. God had failed. God had failed him. Mary Katherine had told him to pray for his mother to be delivered to heaven.
Robert Chase had turned away from Mary Katherine, turned away from God, and walked out. Eleven years later he sat in his apartment, thinking about God, about his mother, about his father. They were both gone. He hadn't gotten to say goodbye to either one of them. He hadn't said goodbye to seminary or God either.
As he found the hidden bottle of vodka that he kept stashed away, he blew the dust off of it. He began to uncap it when there was a knock at the door. He thought about ignoring it, but decided to go answer it. "Wilson? What are you doing here?"
"You know House...he knows everything...and he can't keep his mouth shut, around me anyway. I was worried about you." Wilson said.
Chase hesitated for a moment. He wanted to be alone, but maybe having Wilson there wouldn't be too bad. He liked Wilson. Stepping back, he let Wilson into the place. Wilson saw the bottle of vodka, but he didn't comment on it. "Are...you okay?" Wilson asked him. Chase nodded his head, numbly. "Do...you want to talk about it?"

Chase quoted. Wilson looked at him, curiously. "In seminary, we had to pick our favorite passage. I chose that one." He laughed mirthlessly. "Ironic, wasn't it?"
"What was?" Wilson asked him. He could see Chase fighting against tears.
"That I picked that as my favorite passage...and then failed the test."
