Ran out of characters in summary so here goes: SG1 go to a planet originally of the Ancients and Jack and Sam are accidently put through a series of tests designed for the people the ancients sent there. Then they find themselves sucked into a black hole (physics explained, I know that you're thinking 'they wouldnt survive' but is explained) and so wake up on a new planet in the future (also explained) and try to get back even though they are dying. Will they survive the cold? Will they get back or be stuck in the future forever? Dum Dum Dum! Yeah, i put it as adventure, comfort, but also sci-fi, romance, etc etc etc.

Hope you enjoy this story, this is a big and complex project for me and I'm trying really hard on it, so please tell me your thoughts. Set around end of season 4?

Chapter 1: iter (journey)

It was meant to be a simple mission; if such a thing existed. The planet they were flying to had no stargate but some important ruins and rocks Daniel wanted to play with. Completely uninhabited according to the Tok'ra, far away from any Goa'uld or replicators thank goodness. Not he partially trusted the Tok'ra, it wouldn't have surprised him if they were walking into some sort of ambush. However, the Tok'ra had given their word that it was safe and well protected. Something to do with the atmosphere affecting a symbiote which was why they had come to SG1, and especially to Daniel who was best for translating ruins. Teal'c couldn't come and didn't really need to so he was off visiting his kid, whilst he, Carter and Daniel hoped on the Tel'tak the Tokra had let them burrow and were zooming off into outer space. Daniel had given one of his latin books to him, trying to teach him about ancient Rome to pass the time. He stopped listening about an hour ago, not that Daniels actually noticed; he's too busy enjoying himself whilst he cultures him on civilisations. He honestly couldn't give a damn, they were all dead anyway so its not like he's going to need it.

Carter's driving at the moment, but currently she's watching him obviously entertained by the look of confusion and 'I really don't give a damn' on his face at Dannyboy's prattling. She understands. In response to her amused expression he said "Hey Carter! Keep your eyes on the road, we wouldn't want to be in an accident now would we, not when this thing isn't insured"

"No Sir" she turned back smiling. He stared after her forgetting the current situation momentarily

"Jack? Are you listening?" He turned back to Daniel reluctantly

"Of course I am"

"Then what was I just talking about?"

"Gladiator battles?" He said hopefully.

"No Jack not quite"

"So I was close?"

"No Jack, I was actually reading you a first hand account that was recovered from the Pompeii disaster with Mount Versuvuis. It talks about how the ash came down from the sky like torrential rain" He paused frowning. "Have you actually been listening to any of what I've been teaching you for the last hour?"

"Nope" He wasn't going to lie. He could hear Carter laughing from her seat.

Daniel gave in. "Here, take this, its to help stop you getting bored while I'm going my research".

He took the Latin book and stuffed it in his backpack with a muffled thanks. There wasn't a chance in hell that he was going to use a Latin book to stop him getting bored, if he wanted to commit suicide through boredom on the other hand, then sure, very handy.

"We'll be arriving at the planet soon Sir"

"Excellent" He got up and as far away from Daniel as possible. Sitting next to Carter he watched the planet approach thinking how Earth like it seemed, other than (what he assumed were) the planets oceans which were purple instead of blue. "Here we are campers, P4Q 925, otherwise known as Planet Barney"

"Planet Barney?" Daniel asked confused

"Well...its purple and green, ya know, like Barney the Dinosaur"

"Mature Jack" Daniel commented in his sarcastic way

"The conditions seem Earth like; gravity, atmosphere, air pressure, all identical." Carter pulled the situation back to formality. He realized that this was perhaps a little un-Carter like, she would usually play along a bit or something, hell over the last few years he had really learnt that she had a fun side, so it was strange for her to be so serious on what was meant to be a relaxed mission. Then again, things had been a little awkward since the Zatarc incident. Maybe she just needed a holiday? All she ever did was work, a proper holiday, he would take her fishing but she never wanted to come, maybe Maui with the bikini's...wait, bad thoughts Jack, you cant think about Carter on a Hawaiian beach in a bikini, that's just wrong and...wrong.

"We're coming into uhh...Barney's orbit, Sir" That was more like it. Maybe she had sensed she was acting a little tense.

"Okay, Daniel, help me get the gear ready". They pulled on their packs and got the rest of the stuff ready by the door as they wouldnt be using the rings.

"I'm going to set her down in a clearing roughly a kilometer away from the ruins"

"Nothing closer?" The old knee hadn't exactly been a happy camper recently.

"Not unless you want me to land on top of the ruins and crush them"

"No, Daniel would cry. We'll walk"

With a light thud we landed on the planet and Carter got up from her seat and picked up the remaining gear.

"Ready to ship out?"

"Yes Sir"

"We'll then, lets go find some rocks!"
