'You've started the fire, it' burning.'

He'd kissed her! He'd kissed Lavender! That absolute *****! It felt like her heart was being ripped apart, no, not her heart. Her soul. Her entire existance.

It wasn't even as if she hadn't made her feelings for him clear! This year she'd decided to herself to stop pushing her feelings to the side, and do something for her for once. So she'd, very smartly (she wasn't top in every subject for nothing) asked him to Slughorn's Christmas Party. He on the other hand... He chose to prove his so called 'feelings' for her by groping Lavender and trying to get her tonsils out of her throat with his tongue. Well, it looked like he'd succeeded.

OK, maybe setting the birds on him wasn't the most mature thing to do, but he started it! Why was it always her who had to make the effort? Yet whenever she didn't he'd get all hurt and possessive, like with Krum in fourth year. He was just a friend! It was Ron that took it the wrong way! Or when she brought up the subject of Slughorn's party, he'd stupidly presumed she'd go with McLagg-

That was it! Perfect revenge! Cormac! He'd made his feelings for her very open. Even if he was a bit of a bigheaded prat. It seemed to be her type. There was no-one better to get back at Ron with, perhaps maybe Harry, but that made her feel like vomiting. Harry was like her brother. She couldn't feel anything more than friendly love towards him (believe me, she'd tried).

Just as she was thinking, Cormac walked past her. Walking very slowly and with his nose high in the air, probably in what he thought was quite a sexy stride.

'Hey, Granger.' He purred.

She fought the shiver that worked it's way over her body.

'You can still back out, Hermione! Walk away! Think of Ron!' Her conscience said immediantly.

'Hey, Cormac.'

And just like that, Hermione passed the point of no return.
