"You really want me to be your maid of honor" Alexis asked astonished that Kate had asked her.
Kate leaned in and put her hand on Alexis's knee "Of course I do. I love you Alexis."
Alexis gripped Kate's hand and replied "I love you too Kate, but what about Lanie?"
"I love Lanie too and she will still be a bridesmaid, but you are my choice for maid of honor."
"I'm honored really Kate," Alexis said as she shifted her head down and avoided Kate's eyes. "But I still don't understand why me. I mean you and I just recently became close. I was mad at you for so long and it was really only a year ago that we had a chance to sit down and talk it all out. So I just don't understand how you could choose me over your best friend. Specially a good friend like Lanie."
"Cause you're the hero of your father and I's story" Kate said softly as she gently used her finger to make Alexis look at her.
"I don't understand"
"Do you remember when you father first opened up my mother's case?"
"Yes, he was so worried that you wouldn't take him back."
"Do you know why I did?"
"I assume he apologized finally."
"Got it in one. You are a clever girl," Kate said jokingly.
Alexis blushed and replied "Okay but that doesn't answer my question."
"Do you know why he finally realized he should stop making dumb excuses and just apologize?"
"No," Alexis said finally turning back to face Kate.
"Because you mentioned you problem with Owen and you asked him why couldn't boys just stop making excuses and just apologize. If you hadn't of done that then I'm sure that I would have never let him follow me again."
"Well, that was just a happy accident you can't ask me to be your maid of honor based on that."
Kate pulled Alexis into a hug and replied, "I can and I will. But seriously Alexis you might not have known it, but you were such a big part of your father and I getting and staying together. I mean the first time I realized that I might even want to date your father was when I saw how great he was with you. When he talked about you I saw the real Castle. If it wasn't for you, I don't think I would have met the real Rick Castle"
"You would have missed out."
"Your darn right I would have. The list could go on and on. Your little comments have solved cases and kept a relationship together."
"You and dad are perfect together. I think you would have made it without me."
"I might have shot him by now."
Alexis slapped Kate and replied, "Kate!"
"Okay, I'm just saying with you I'm sure there have been less speed bumps."
"Well, I did save Dad's proposal."
"You did. What possessed him to have Espo hide the ring I will never know."
"Well, that might have been a better choice than Ryan."
"Oh really."
"Yeah Dad handed the ring to Ryan and his son tried to eat it. I had to grab it out of his mouth, because Ryan and Dad were freaking out and Espo was still terrified of babies."
"See Alexis you're the hero of the story."
"I guess I am."
"So, is that a yes?"
"Yes, I would be happy to be your maid of honor"
"Think we can get your Dad to let you hold the rings instead of whoever he picks as best man."
"I hope so or I might have to be the hero of your wedding too"
"That's the spirit! Kate said as she wrapped her arm around Alexis as they leaned back into the couch and laughed.
