Run
"Hey, wait up!" Shisui called after his younger cousin, disappearing in the sparse light rapidly as he pounded away from the voice calling him back. "Why are you running?"
He noticed that the young child had glanced back, fear in his wide-red? Sharingan?-eyes, then sped up, his arms pumping quickly, as if coaxing himself to burst forward like a steam engine, trying desperatly to escape. Shisui grimaced and forced himself forward, knowing if he used Shushin the chakra consumption would exhaust him horribly, leaving no room for mistakes. And the child would tire eventually. Suddenly, his cousin's head shot up, noticing something in the distance. Shisui squinted, barely making out a jagged line on the horizon. His heart stopped for a split second.
"Itachi! Stop running! Now!"
Itachi looked back at him, back to the distance, and pushed forward steadily, gaining slight speed in incriments. A cold wave of shock washed over him as he watched Itachi unwaveringly continue.
"Itachi, stop! It's a cliff! Stop! Now!" Despite his attempt to sound angry and commanding, Shisui's voice broke with deadly fear. "Itachi!"
-O-
Itachi finally reached his destination. All there was to do was jump.
-O-
Shisui saw Itachi draw back for a second, his body curling in for a moment. With a scream, he disintigrated into the night air.
-O-
Finally. Finally. His feet touched air. His hair fluttered around him. His eyes swam with tears as he felt his heart lighten. Nothing. He was weightless as a scream resounded somewhere he didn't need to care about anymore.
-O-
His cells sped forward at burning speeds. He needed to reach the cliff before Itachi did. Almost too late. Almost.
-O-
Itachi was weightless. Worlds, tons of pressure, alleviated his shoulders as they disappeared with the weight. Wind held him for a breif second. Finally. Finally. He spread his arms like wings and fell...
Into trembling arms. He felt pressure, not unpleasant, wrapping around him as he was pressed to a warm chest, fabric beneath his cheek. His heart numbed.
-O-
Shisui felt all strength leave his body as his cells reassembled beneath the child, his power drained nearly to nothing. Falling rapidly, he grabbed Itachi close, holding him desperately, conjuring up the last of his dwindling energy into meager chakra, coating his feet and left palm, dragging it across jagged rock and stone, feeling skin tear as they slid. His foot caught a hold and he forced his toes deeper into the slippery mud, clinging into the dirt. Shisui clutched the trembling child, muttering, "You're rediculous. Absolutely rediculous."
-O-
Itachi wrapped his fingers into the soft blue of Shisui's shirt, looking down. Reality hit him like a landslide on his heaving chest, realizing how close death really was. He looked up weakly at his cousin who, despite everything, was smiling. At him. As if Itachi hadn't just tried to end his life. Breaking down into tears, he mumbled weak "thank you"s as Shisui kissed the top of his head. He felt his support jerk as Shisui began to climb slowly. Itachi wrapped his arms around Shisui's neck, alleviating some weight as his savior dragged them up to safety. Itachi regretted the pain he had put Shisui through, but could only wish that he hadn't been caught running in the first place.

A/N: Shortest oneshot I ever wrote. I actually wrote it a long, long time ago, but never posted it, originally planning to make it longer. If you guys like it, let me know, and I might actually continue it. That said, enjoy!
