Lily had stormed out of the house once again, trying to get away from the taunting that Petunia had carried on with every holiday since She'd started at Hogwarts.
"I'm not a freak." Lily muttered under her breath, trying to get her sisters words to leave her mind. "She's just jealous, I'm not a freak I'm a witch."
Lily was barely paying attention to where she was headed, and jumped when she heard her name called from behind her.
"Lily, are you running away for some reason?" Severus yelled, starting to run along the road as he left his house.
Lily stared back, only just taking in that she had been walking along the road straight out of the village they lived in. "Not intentionally." she muttered, looking at the ground as her best friend stopped in front of her. "I just wanted to get away from her. Why can't she just accept I'm a witch already? It's been 4 years."
Snape pulled her into a hug, "Lily, just ignore her. Petunia doesn't know anything about magic and I'm here. Come to the park, it's easier to relax and talk there than it is on this empty road to nowhere."
Lily sighed, letting Severus lead her back along the road, after hugging him tightly for a moment. "Why are you always here for me Sev?" She muttered, not realising she'd actually spoken out loud.
Severus just smiled, remaining silent until they had reached the park. "I can't see the point in being anywhere else if your upset Lily. But you're there for me more often than I'm there for you Lils." He whispered, sitting on the grass.
"That's the nicest thing to say Sev."Lily sighed, sitting beside him and leaning onto his shoulder.
"It's true you know. I'd drop everything if you were upset, just to comfort you." Severus said, deciding quickly that he'd finally tell Lily how he felt about her. "I care about you too much not to."
Lily smiled, but turned to face Severus, recognising there was something more about to be said, and glad that it finally seemed her wish would come true. "I care about you a lot too Sev. I never want to lose you."
Severus forced him to look directly into Lily's eyes as he spoke, finding the courage to continue through the care that gleamed there. "I think I'm in love with you Lily, and um, I was wondering if you'd be my girlfriend."
Lily's smiled looked big enough to split her face. "Yes I will, Sev. I've been waiting for you to ask for ages." She replied, before kissing Severus quickly on the lips.
