Chapter One

"Good morning, good morning, good morning, ah. Nothing to do to save his life. Call his wife in; nothing to say."

Beca Mitchell awoke to a beautiful voice singing the Beatles song, "Good Morning, Good Morning." She assumed it was her radio alarm clock, but when she hit the snooze button sleepily, the song kept going. She whacked the button a few more times, but to no avail. She dropped her hand over the side of the bed in surrender, letting the music ring on. She suddenly felt a hand on her waist and both of her alarmingly blue eyes burst open in surprise. Her vision was still bleary and all she saw was a male figure. She shrieked, sitting up abruptly, and now, she was clearly wide awake. She heard a familiar chuckle and relaxed. It was Jesse Swanson, Beca's boyfriend of almost five years, with whom she lives with in their apartment.

"Oh my god. You could've given me a heart attack. dork," Beca retorted, flicking his ear, a smile creeping up on her face. She flopped back down on her bed in relief, hugging her pillow.

"Wait. So Beca Mitchell is actually scared of something? Dang. I bet the moon will be blue tonight." Jesse grinned at her mischievously, wrapping his arms around Beca's waist and dragging her across the bed to him.

Beca flicked him again playfully, causing Jesse to chuckle and flick her back. She made a face at him and asked him where he's been, seeing his athletic-looking outfit, complete with a towel over his neck.

"I was at the gym for about an hour."

Beca glanced at the clock. 8:06, it read. "Jesus Jesse, you were up at 7:00?" Beca asked, surprised.

"Actually, 6:30, but not everyone is a sleepyhead like you, Bec." Jesse said, kissing Beca's forehead. "So, I believe you have work to get to, don't you?" he reminded, standing up and stretching his arms over his head. Beca worked at a small Italian restaurant not too far from the apartment.

Beca groaned but nonetheless rolled out of bed and walked towards her closet. "I'm only doing this 'cause you're telling me to do it, but otherwise you're just as bad as my dad used to be about my classes." she teased. She opened her closet and looked at Jesse pointedly.

Jesse saw this as his cue and stood up, walking towards the door. "At this point, you should let me stay," he said with a humorous smirk, "It's not anything I haven't seen." Beca pointed toward the door and he added with a wink, "But, I'll be by the door to walk you to work."

As Jesse left, Beca contemplated her wardrobe for something to wear. She decided on a green scoop-neck sweater and a comfy pair of hip-rider jeans. After putting on the outfit, she walked into the bathroom to get ready.

Meanwhile, Jesse was standing in the small living room, looking carelessly around the already-familiar atmosphere. He saw a small picture frame that wasn't there before and walked over to see it. Beca must've put it there, he thought to himself. He picked it up and saw that it was the picture Fat Amy took of them at the end of freshman year. Beca was on his back tackling him after he threw water on her on the last day of classes. It was the perfect culmination to the year.

Freshman year, Jesse remembered fondly. It was definitely a difficult year, but it was the year that Beca finally jumped into Jesse's open arms.

Jesse was just setting the photo down as Beca walked in.

"Hey Million Dollar Baby, are you ready to get to wonderful work? Jesse asked with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"Get moving, nerd." Beca said with a smile, pushing Jesse towards the door.

But Jesse had other ideas. He turned around and kissed Beca passionately, pulling her to him, which she returned willingly. Beca usually had a strong resolve but being in Jesse's arms and feeling his perfect lips against hers melted any speck of hanging resolve. They kissed for a while before Jesse broke away, telling Beca that she's going to be late if they go at it any longer. Beca picked up her bag, making an exaggerated pouty face.

"Aw, is someone sad?" Jesse asked in a baby voice, laughing lightly. Beca pushed him with a giggle and he went stumbling out the door into the hallway.

"Hey, what did I do to deserve that?" Jesse laughed, wrapping his arms around Beca from behind, trapping her in place.

Beca sticks her tongue out at him, laughing and struggling in his arms. Jesse picked her up and spun her around, causing her to shriek in delight. Jesse put her down and checked his watch hastily.

"Uh-oh, you're actually going to be late if we don't get running!" Jesse said, setting Beca down gently and starting towards the stairs.

"And the dorky Jesse I know and love is back." Beca said with a smile and a slight shake of her head, following him.
