Don't say that
Rated: T
Summery: Declan tries to drink himself to death but Miranda shows him what a mistake it is. Sort of a Declan/Miranda friendship fic.
Disclaimer: Idon't own Mysterious Ways or its characters.
Declan smiled to himself as he pulled out a bottle of wine. It had been a stressful day at work. He didn't bother to pull out a glass. No one was around anyways. He lifted the bottle to his lips and took a swig. Finally I can drown out my thoughts. About an hour and 6 bottles layer he heard her. His fuzzy mind didn't register who it was or care. He smiles as darkness claimed him.
Miranda was working late again. Declan was of course unaware of this. She yawned and decided to head home. She had done enough for today. And that's when she saw him.
He can feel his life slipping away. He doesn't care. It's what he wants. Right? Logically no, but he couldn't think straight so that rules out logic. He vaguely hears a gasp.
Miranda took one look at the bottles littering his couch and the eerily still form of Declan. Her eyes lit in worry as she tries to wake him. He doesn't move. She can find only a weak pulse.
He hears someone call his name. A woman. But who was she? She seems upset. Then he feels guilty. Why? Again his foggy can't answer. But he wants to wake up.
Miranda looked close to tears as she fought to wake him. She prays to whatever gods up there that listen to her that he will not die. Declan won't die she promises her self.
He is fighting for breath. He can't hold on much longer. But he hears the woman's voice. He lets it be his guide out of this place. He doesn't want to die anymore he decides. Perhaps too late.
She can feel wet tears falling down her cheeks for the first time in years. She doesn't give up despite the impossible situation. Her instinct tells her he will find a way out some how. Unless he wants to die. But no, she must not think such thoughts. And when he has such great friends, why would he?
He can almost see the light. It's like when you're at the deep end of the swimming pool. You dive to the bottom and it's dark. You can barely see but its fun all the same. Then you panic slightly and rush to surface. As you grow nearer you see the sun shining through. You break the surface looking proud. The sun is her voice. Calling you. You can almost taste the wind and see the sun.
She is really worried now. It's been 30 minutes and he hasn't stirred. She wonders what made him drink so much. Was he depressed? Did something happen after they left him in there office? She thinks about it. A cough breaks her thinking. She smiles at the now awake Declan. "Hey. I thought I'd lose you." Miranda says.
Declan smiles at you. "I thought I would too" he replies.
Suddenly she pulled him into a hug. She held on like she would never let go. Declan relaxes in to her embrace. "Thanks"
"What made you drink that much?" Miranda asks concerned.
Declan looks away unsure what to say. "I didn't want to make you worry. I thought no one cared. I decided to kill myself. I almost did."
Miranda looked up with scared eyes. "Don't say that. A friend said that and he did kill himself."
"Sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." Declan said quietly.
"It's okay. Just don't scare me like that again. Oh, I'm here if you want to talk." She lingered.
"Thanks. I can see you want to go home."
"Will you be okay tonight?"
"Yeah."
She nods and leaves. Declan soon follows.
