Elphaba gathered her supplies and walked out of the door to her next class. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw Fiyero in the hall way. She always saw him after this class and every time her heart jumped when she saw him.

"Hey Elphaba," Fiyero said as he stopped her. She bit her lip.

"Hello Fiyero," she greeted. He gave her his sparkling smile.

'Why do I always feel so nervous when I'm around him?' She thought.

"Galinda got a haircut. Make sure you give her a compliment," Elphaba warned Fiyero.

"Ah, thank you. I would never have noticed. She changes her hair every week," Fiyero joked.

"She said something about the dance that's coming up," Elphaba said not meeting his eyes, "are you asking her?"

"Well, actually, I was thinking about asking someone else," Fiyero leaned against the wall.

'Galinda isn't going to like this' Elphaba thought.

The late bell rang and a look of panic spread across Elphaba's face.

"Class has started. What's the use in heading to it now?" Fiyero shrugged at her and grabbed her hand. "C'mon, let me show you what I do for fun."

Although it was against her better judgment, Elphaba followed.

He led her through the doors and into the courtyard.

"Check this out," he said as he stopped in front of a very large tree.

"Hmm, very nice tree," Elphaba adjusted her glasses and pretended to study the tree. They both laughed.

"No, I mean look up," Fiyero explained. She listened and saw planks of wood which must have been an attempt of a ladder. She dropped her stuff and grabbed onto the first plank and started to climb her way up. She slipped slightly and Fiyero grabbed her by the waist and helped her back up. She flushed but continued climbing.

"Thanks," she said and poked her head through the leaves to reveal a tree house.

"Do you like it?" Fiyero asked and followed her in.

'Aren't you a little old for tree forts?" She asked, but was clearly impressed. Fiyero shrugged.

"Aren't you a little smart to be skipping class?" He defended.

"Alright, you have me there. Did you make this yourself?" She asked.

"Yeah, I get bored skipping class and not having anywhere to go beside my dorm. So I built this," he said while drumming his fingers on the sturdy quox wood.

"So, what's all this about inviting someone that isn't Galinda to the dance?"

Fiyero paled.

"Well… It was only one dance…I mean I like Galinda but… I can't…I mean," Fiyero stammered. Elphaba laughed.

"Don't worry, I understand," she said, "Who do you want to invite?"

"You," Fiyero said and moved closer to her. Elphaba's heart jumped and she blinked at him.

"Me? Why would you want to ask me? I…You…But," it was her turn to stammer.

He put his finger to her lips.

"I love you, Elphaba. Now, shut up." Who was she to argue? She shut her mouth.

Fiyero removed his finger from her lips and leaned in. Elphaba closed her eyes and their lips met. A shiver went through her. Suddenly, she thought about Galinda. Her eyes shot open.

"Fiyero, what about Galinda?"

"Her and I are no longer an 'object'," Fiyero explained and kissed her again. She melted into his embrace. They broke apart when they needed air.

"I guess that means you'll go to the dance with me?" Fiyero asked.

"We'll see," Elphaba smiled and put her hand behind his head. He leaned in but their lips never met. He fell forward and Elphaba had started to climb down the ladder.

"See you at the dance, Fiyero," she called after her.

He smiled to himself. That green girl was something else.
