This story takes place about six months after Alex gave birth.

Alex looks at her watch and quickly stands up. "Shit, I didn't realize the time."
Goren looks up from his paperwork, "You takin' off?"
"Yeah, I'm late. I told Beth I'd be there by six." She barely looks at him as she gathers her things and runs out of the squad room.

Beth's House
Beth sees Alex pull up and greets her at the door with Nathan in her arms.
"Oh, man, Beth, I'm so sorry I'm late." Alex shakes her head as if she disapproves of her own actions. She stops short when she sees Nathan, then reaches for the baby.
"No problem, Lex. I'm in no hurry to get rid of him!" Beth hands him off.
"Hey, Little Man, I've missed you!" Alex nestles her nose in the crook of his neck and breathes in his scent. Nathan coos with delight.
When Alex lifts her head, Beth hands her the diaper bag and his car seat. "Here's everything."
"Beth, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this." Alex gives her sister a big smile.
"Believe me, Lex, any time!"

Alex's Home
"Well, we're here!" They make their way inside and Alex drops the bag on the couch. She semi walks/dances across the floor and Nathan giggles. Alex hears him and starts to sing while she dances around her living room.
"Do you know how much I've missed you?" She asks him coyly and he giggles some more at the sound of her voice. His laughing makes her feel silly, and as she twirls around she kisses him loudly all over his cheeks, then lifts him up and kisses his belly. By now, Nathan is shrieking with delight, and Alex is laughing out loud.
Somehow, over all the ruckus, she hears the someone unlocking the front door.
"Who's here, Nate?" Nathan looks at her, then at the door.
She sweeps across the floor, closer to the door, just as Bobby steps inside. Both Alex and Nathan get big smiles on their faces.
"Look at that, Baby! Daddy's home!"
Bobby takes one look at Alex dancing around with their son and his heart swells. Never in his life did he think he'd have this kind of happiness.
He steps toward them and kisses both Alex and Nathan; she on the lips and he on his forehead. "How was Aunt Beth's, Little Man?"
"She said they had a great day." She hands Nathan off to Bobby.
"It was so nice of her to fill in like that at such short notice." He holds Nathan in one arm, while he used the other one to pull Alex closer to him.
Alex kisses him. "Yeah, she's great like that."
The rest of the night is like every other. They make dinner, they play with Nathan, they bathe him and them put him to bed.
It's their own Private Idaho. No one at work has a clue. For now.
