I've always been the shy one. I have a few close friends, and several family members, but I keep mostly to myself.

I have a hard time making new friends since I don't like initiating conversations with people I don't know.

"Rose," my cousin, Dominique Weasley, said. Yes, in case you hadn't guessed, I am Rose Weasley, daughter of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, fifth year Hogwarts student, and Prefect.

"Rose, are you listening to me?" Dominique asked.

"I am now," I replied.

"Do you want to go with me to the Ravenclaw Common Room? A bunch of us are hanging out over there."

"No thanks," I said. "I have Charms homework I need to finish."

This wasn't exactly a lie, but it wasn't entirely true either. I did have Charms homework that I had yet to finish, but it wasn't due for over a week and I knew it wouldn't take me hardly any time at all to finish. I just needed an excuse not to go.

"Oh, come on, Rose!" Dominique exclaimed. "You're going to have to get over being so shy sooner or later!"

In less than twenty words, Dominique Weasley sparked something within me.

OoOoOoO

I'd always thought Scorpius Malfoy was cute, but I'd never said anything to him before. So when I found myself waving and saying hello as he walked past me in the hallway, I spent the rest of the day wondering what had come over me.

I hoped to write it off as a one time mistake. But then it happened again... and again, until I was greeting him every time we passed each other. I was shocked every time I spoke to him, but I couldn't help myself. I received an even bigger shock, however, when Scorpius sat next to me in History of Magic one day.

"Hello Rose," he greeted, giving me a small smile that lit up his silver eyes.

"Oh... Um, hi," I managed to get out.

"How are you?" he asked the question so easily, it was like he'd asked me the same thing a thousand times.

I tried to answer, but all that came out was a squeak, causing him to chuckle lightly.

I cleared my voice and tried again. "I'm fine," I finally managed.

"Well, that's good," he said, running a hand through his platinum blonde hair, just like I'd seen him do several times before.

"Why do you do that?" I asked, gesturing to his hair.

"It's just an odd habit of mine," Scorpius replied. "Pretty much everyone knows that. I'm surprised you don't."

"I know hardly anything about you."

"Well, maybe you should get to know me better,"

"Maybe," I said.

After that, we took turns asking each other questions.

I found out his favorite class is Defense Against the Dark Arts, he likes pie more than cake, his favorite color is red, and he hopes to someday be an Auror.

We were having a good time, laughing and joking. As the class neared its end, I remembered what Dominique had said to me.

"Do you want to hang out in Hogsmede next weekend?" I blurted.

He stared at me for a few seconds before replying.

"Oh... I've been a bit busy lately, and O.W.L.s are coming up soon, so I don't think I can," he said.

"Oh..."

The bell rang, signaling the end of class and I found myself rushing out of there as soon as possible.

On my way back to the Common Room I couldn't help but think about what had happened.

Perhaps I will stay my shy self for a little while longer.

A/N: Hello to my faithful readers!

I just came up with this one-shot, so I wrote it down and hopefully you all enjoy it.

I'd like to thank Cookie VanDeKamp for editing and publishing this for me, since I still can't save anything on the computer.

To all of you reading It's Not Always What It Seems - Thanks for your patience. I plan on writing a new chapter for that next, unless of course I get another random one-shot idea.

Please review and tell me your thoughts and opinions!
