Prompt: #45 Moon

Author's Notes: Takes place early in Season 1.

The full moon has just cleared the spruce trees, and their tips reach like fingers, eager to keep the pale, silvery orb to themselves. But the moon breaks free, and slowly climbs into the star scattered heavens as Teal'c, sitting on Jack's dock surrounded by a handful of Kelnorim candles, watches.

His eyes finally close, and his breathing deepens, but the serenity that usually comes with meditation is elusive, chased away by the image of Earth's small, cold moon. Such an insignificant satellite, such a shock to see when he first was permitted to go outside of the Mountain. Colorado is similar in so many ways to Chulak that the absence of Bil'og and Bu'won hanging heavy in the sky was like a physical blow.

Teal'c sighs imperceptibly, and giving up for the night, he douses the candles until only one is left burning. Kelnorim has become difficult to attain of late; too many questions, thoughts, worries tumble through his head.

The feeling of power Teal'c had when he turned on his own men and freed the prisoners had quickly faded, and he knows that for all inherent purposes, he is still a cog in a wheel. Although at least now it is a Tau'ri wheel that works against the Goa'uld, and not for them.

This is what is important, Teal'c realizes. Where he is matters little against who he is with, and what they are achieving.

Footsteps sound in the grass behind him, one set quiet, barely there (O'Neill, Teal'c identified); the other louder, kicking at a stone that plops into the lake (DanielJackson). The dock creaks as the men sit down.

"Nice night." Jack takes a pull of his beer. "Full moon."

Daniel looks up, squinting a bit at the light. "The moving moon went up the sky, and nowhere did abide; softly she was going up, and a star or two beside," he quotes softly.

"Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle, the cow jumped over the moon," quips Jack after a moment.

"I see the moon, and the moon sees me. God bless the moon, and God bless me," Daniel ripostes back.

Teal'c waits, and is not disappointed.

"Blue mooooooon," Jack begins to warble, off key.

"You win. Just stop singing." Daniel grimaces before taking a drink of his own beer.

"Yep, nice night," Jack repeats, looking up at the moon, then down at her reflection in the still water.

"Yep," Daniel echoes.

"Indeed."
