Chapter One

It was simple to see. That was, if you knew what you were looking for. But it was such an impossibility, that no one in their right mind would consider it, much less try to see it. And so, she kept the matter in the background, camouflaged to the naked eye. Only in the far corners of her mind, corners that even she couldn't reach, was it blatantly obvious.

"You're impossible," Claire said as she rubbed her temples, attempting to keep her calm façade on, though the man's stupidity that stood in front of her threatened to break it. Or perhaps it was the smile that kept crawling to the edges of her lips that was the problem.

"Okay, okay," Zack said, ruffling the short blonde girl's hair, making her feel as though she were nothing more than a child, completely wiping the smirk from her face and reenergizing her anger once again. "I'll stop."

She swatted his hand away as she stepped backwards from him and tucked her hands in her pockets in a rebellious and stubborn manner. "I was scared. I didn't know it was only a tree. So there's no need for you to make fun of me."

It was embarrassing, and he only kept adding salt to her wound. She had run down to his house in a panic, scared that someone was trying to break into her home. And when she pulled the disgruntled and slightly annoyed Zack back to her farm to see what it was, all they found was a tree, slightly fallen over and broken, with its leaves rustling against the window.

It was definitely more than embarrassing.

Seeming to have gotten his amusement out of the situation, and now falling once again back into his tired and slightly unhappy mood, Zack yawned loudly.

"I'm going home," he said as he began walking away, fatigue having suddenly completely taken over him. "Don't come and wake me up again if a bush starts trying to break into your house too."

Claire puffed out her cheeks in exasperation, attempting to muddle a good comeback inside her head, though when she came up with nothing, all she could manage to stutter out was an "I—I won't."

Once again left standing alone on her farm, in nothing but a pair of shorts and a large T-shirt, she hurried back into her house, locking the door tightly—still slightly afraid despite learning the identity of the attempted "intruder".

Slowly she crawled in her bed and pulled the covers up to her chin, yawning widely as sleep replaced the excitement of ten minutes ago. She closed her eyes, stirring inside the warm bed while she mumbled a few words to no one in particular, before falling into the night.

"Stupid Zack."

I know it's short. But longer and hopefully better chapters to come. Because Zack and Claire are my favorite pairing ever. I wish so much that you could marry him in MFOMT. But you can't, so cheers to fanfiction.
