Chapter 1: Homeless
"Mom, when are we going to get there?" I ask, leaning forward as much as I can against my seat belt. I was twelve years old during than and I swear, sometimes I wondered what could have caused that day to happen. Me and my two parents were heading to Disney World on our winter vacation and I never felt so happy before.
"We'll be there in a few minutes, Josh." My mom answered as she leaned her seat back so she can have some shut eye. My dad was too busy focusing on the road, like always, since he never allowed my mom to drive a rental car. I always wondered why my dad was a rental car freak, but I guess I'd never figure it out.
My dad was pulling onto the parking lot of Disney World when the sound of glass shattering filled the air inside of the car. One minute, everything was going smoothly, and the next, my dad was going about a hundred miles per hour. My mom screamed and the only thing I could do was cry, knowing my life was about to end. Right when I was about to let go of my third sob, the SUV rental smashed into a tree and everything became still.
Five days… five days since the car crash and here I was, walking along the streets, trying to find food. It was hard, never finding the right amount to keep myself healthy. People would watch me walk by and not do a thing to help me. Sometimes, I wonder why I even try to live. I would usually imagine my parents finding me and bringing me back home, but deep down inside, I knew that would never happen. I was homeless and that was a simple fact to accept. Arriving at the alley way I usually sleep in, I notice two guys wearing uniforms standing at the box. Turning back around, I walk away from the alley way, looking at the ground. "Great…" I think to myself as I sit down at a bus bench, closing my eyes as I shake my head slightly. "This day… is horrible… I just lost my home… and now two people are looking for me."
"Are you Josh?" A voice asked in front of me, making me look up at the face of a man. I could tell the person was from NCIS since he had the NCIS jacket on, but I had no clue why he was talking to me.
"Yes I am…" I say softly as I turn my eyes back towards the ground. "Why do you need to know?"
"I'm Special Agent Gibbs and I'm bringing you to NCIS headquarters for questioning since you are the only person that saw your parents alive." Gibbs says as he handcuffs me, bringing me towards the truck. I didn't argue, I just remained quiet, feeling the hard seat underneath me than the feeling of the road sliding smoothly away.
