George Weasley rolled around on his bed restlessly, his eyes screwed shut with longing for sleep to overcome him. A whole week had passed since the Battle of Hogwarts, and the loss of his own twin brother wasn't getting any less painful. During the past week, he had had no sleep whatsoever. He was definitely going to be forced to stay in bed all day on his mother's orders again. With a groan, he buried his face into the pillow and tried to will himself to sleep. Until –
A bloodcurdling scream burst from downstairs. George sat up quickly and grabbed his wand before bolting out of the room. He heard his sister Olivia scream "ALYSSA, NO!" and ran harder, fear filling through his body. What had happened to Alyssa?
Reaching his sisters' room, he threw open the door and stopped dead. Olivia and Ginny were bent over Alyssa's bed, both in tears. George paled as he got closer. Alyssa was lying on her bed with dried blood pooled around her. There was a huge gash on her stomach. Her wand was lying on the floor as if she dropped it. Shoving in between his sisters, George felt for a pulse on the black-haired girl. Nothing. His dead twin's fiancée was gone. She killed herself.
Shaking with grief and horror, George pulled Olivia into a tight hug. To Ginny he said, "Go get everyone. Now."
After Ginny left, Olivia hiccoughed and buried her head into his shoulder. George stroked her hair and back, feeling even more empty than before. He couldn't believe it. He knew that Alyssa had always been an unstable person, but he never expected this to come.
"How could she do this to us?" Olivia sobbed, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably. "How could she leave us like this?! Why?!"
George didn't know how to answer. Was it because she had lost so much? Was it Fred's death that finally pushed her over to her inevitable doom? "I don't know, Livvy. She probably did it during another one of her psychotic episodes. You know how it works. She became a murderer because of one. Why wouldn't she off herself because of what she lost and did?"
It was horrible to hear himself say that, but it seemed to be the truth. Alyssa had lost a lot of people in her life. Her parents. Diggory. Sirius. Dumbledore. Bethy. The Creevey kid. Her dorm mate Lavender Brown. And Fred. Alyssa must've felt that their deaths were her fault. Her parents chose to protect her. Diggory died because he happened to come along with her to the graveyard. Sirius died in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, which happened after Alyssa fell for a trap and went there. She was there when Dumbledore was killed by Snape and couldn't do a thing about it. And the remaining three died in the Battle of Hogwarts along with fifty others, which happened because they were trying to give Alyssa more time by delaying You-Know-Who. Add in Alyssa's unstable mind and you would get a walking disaster waiting to explode.
He barely registered Evan and Neville bursting in with their wands raised before freezing in shock. All he could focus on was his little sister crying her eyes out for someone who was her twin in all but blood and birth. Now she knew what he felt like.
