Prologue: An Unexpected Escape

-PR:RS-

There is a world unbeknownst to humans. Up in the sky hidden from view, there lies the Rainbow Bridge. This bridge serves as the gateway between the human dimension and that of the Ether, a dimensional underworld where the worst of the worst pass on to after death. Six magical individuals serve and protect the human dimension as well as their own village. Many think that it is impossible to escape from the Ether until now….

The Ether Gate

What lies at the end of the rainbow would surprise humans if they ever found out. It's not a pot of gold, or another magical world where you can be taken home by shoes, or any of the other stories made up by the humans. No what lies at the end of the rainbow is a bit more...intense. It's known by three words: The Ether Gate. What lies beyond the strong stone walls and steel doors were the spirits of the worst of the worst in any and all dimensions. No one who had gone there had ever come out.

"How's the family Asun?" asked Yonis, one of the guards stationed to watch over the Ether Gate. He thought it a boring task since nothing ever escaped. The only time he had seen the doors open was when souls were pulled into it. Ergo, he had to find something to pass the time while he was there. He ran his hands against his thick teal mustache as he fought back a yawn. He found that conversation helped speed up the dullness of the day shift. "You adjusting to married life?"

Asun smiled as he thought of his newborn child. His paternity leave had been far too short in his opinion. He wanted more than anything to be back with his wife and son. But he knew that he was doing his duty to protect the people of Iris and the world as a whole. "Good. We finally got little Petal to fall asleep for longer than two hours! I feel bad for Jonna though, leaving her alone with a newborn."

"She'll be fine," said Yonis. "You'll be back before you know it. Besides it's good to get a little time away from home."

"I'm just glad that this is a job where I don't have to worry about anything going wrong," said Asun. "I'm already stressed enough with the newborn as it is."

The words had just left his mouth when the two men heard a noise from behind them. Yonis felt the hairs on his arms rising as he turned to look back. His eyes widened as he watched the doors to the Ether Gate began to open. Yonis and Asun nodded at each other as they raised their spears and shields in the air, preparing themselves for whatever...or whomever stepped out.

They couldn't see much of the Ether beyond the gate, only a swirling mass of black energy. The men gulped as they made out a figure holding the doors open, he was very muscular and yet seemed to be struggling as well. Yonis and Asun took a couple of steps backwards as three figures walked out of the mass of energy and set foot on the cobblestone floor outside of the Ether Gate.

"Alright Gail," said the male voice in the front. As he stepped into the light of the lamps, the guards could get a better look at him. He had green scales covering his entire body. His frame was lean yet muscular. His hair was underneath a large and gaudy gold headdress. He had rather large ears that stuck out. His eyes were green and slitted like a snake's. He wore a black bodysuit with heavy gold armor adorning it. He held a black book in his hands. "Thank you for your help. Doesn't it feel good to be out of there? The fresh air, the clear night sky, the helpless idiots waiting to be slaughtered."

"As long as I get to smash some skulls like you promised Arc," said Gail. Gail had been the muscular one who had been holding the doors open. His muscles were probably the size of Asun's entire body. His skin was a pale-gray color and had tufts of fur on his wrists. His face resembled that of a wolf's. He had short spiky gray hair and dull grey eyes. He wasn't wearing a shirt, but was wearing a pair of black trousers with black boots that had little skulls on them.

"Of course, of course my friend," said Arc chuckling to himself. "What kind of friends would we be if we didn't let you kill people?"

A female stepped into the light. She had tan skin with one clear blue eye, whereas the other one was covered by an eyepatch. She was lean and muscular, with a bo staff strapped to her back. Her long light brown hair was pulled into a ponytail, She wore a black tank top with a red embroidered leather jacket over it. On her left hand were bracelets and rings. She wore a black glove over her right hand. She had a pair of black trousers and knee high heeled boots as well. Strapped across her hips was a belt with pouches that seemed to contain vials. She narrowed her eyes at the guards, "Oh boys? As much as I'd hate to interrupt the lovefest, we have company."

"Thank you Seraphim," said Arc with a cunning smirk. "If you and Gail would take care of them please while I close the door."

"With pleasure," said Seraphim.

Gail smashed his fists together, "I've been waiting for this for fifty thousand years!"

The two guards were rushed at by Seraphim and Gail. The two held up their shields to protect themselves. Gail tightened his fist and swung it at Asun, his fist slamming into the shield, sending the man flying as Gail charged at him. Seraphim used her bo staff to pole vault over Yonis to land behind him. She low kicked Yonis, knocking him off his balance and into the ground.

She spun her bo staff and swung it down onto him, but Yonis used his shield to block it. He placed his boots on his shield and kicked upwards, pushing Seraphim's staff upwards and bringing himself back to his feet. Seraphim smirked and looked at him, slightly caught off guard by the guard's fighting experience. This delighted a certain part of her as it made things more interesting. Yonis made the next move and swung his spear at her, but Seraphim sidestepped it to the left, dodging it. Yonis thrust his spear at her multiple times, but she kept dodging with an amused smirk on her face. Yonis glared, trying his best to hit her but to no avail.

"I'm impressed," Seraphim commented. "I didn't think you guards were actually trained, but you have some fight in you. I feel like we're really getting to know each other, but now you're boring me."

Yonis swung his spear at her, but she quickly ducked under the spear and swiftly grabbed it and yanked it out of Yonis's hand. Seraphim spun the spear and her bo staff, looking at Yonis with a sadistic look in her eyes. Yonis eyed both weapons, wondering which one she would swing first. Seraphim smirked before swinging her bo staff at him, but Yonis countered by raising his shield, blocking the attack. However he had left himself open and she stabbed him in the abodemen, with enough force to pierce him through his back. Yonis coughed violently, lowering his shield, and fell to his knees. Seraphim stared at him as he looked up at her with a slight glare in his eyes. Seraphim's face turned serious. She swung her bo staff into the side of his head and a loud crack was heard as the final blow was dealt.

Seraphim heard a scream and turned her attention to the others, before ducking as Asun leapt over her and hit the ground with a loud thud. The man felt as if something had been broken, but slowly stood up. His shield had cracks on it from the relentless slamming of Gail's fist. Asun glared at Gail, tightly gripping his shield and spear as the giant man approached him. He swung his fist into Asun's shield, cracking it again with pieces flying off the shield as Asun skidded back. Gail charged at him and brought both his fists up to slam down at him. Asun raised his shield up to block them. This was a trick, however, and Gail moved his hands to Asun's sides, grabbing the man and picking him up. Asun started to struggle as Gail began to squeeze the guard, the latter screaming in pain as he heard his bones crack.

"What's wrong little man! No more fight in you?" Gail taunted as he kept crushing. Asun kept screaming in pain as he kept struggling, before his eyes turned to look at Yonis and his eyes widened as he stared at Yonis' lifeless body. Seraphim looked at him and smirked, turning to Asun.

"Your friend tried his best, but unfortunately, couldn't handle me," She said with an evil smirk.

Asun's vision proceeded to get blurrier and darker as his struggle was slowly stopping. His life flashed before his eyes. He thought of all the times he and Yonis talked at the Door, his loving wife Jonna and finally, his daughter Petal. The thought of his family, however, caused Asun to struggle more and more, his thrashing getting more violent. He couldn't give up, not now. Yonis wouldn't want that. He kept struggling before kicking Gail in the face, causing the giant man to let go of one of his sides, covering his nose, swearing slightly. Asun took this opportunity and went to stab Gail with his spear. But as quickly as that hope appeared, it was taken away when Seraphim swung her bo staff into his spear, breaking it. Asun's eyes widened at his broken spear.

"Finish him Gail and stop wasting our time," Seraphim said looking at him.

"Fine," Gail said before slamming Asun down. Gail was fuming with anger and put Asun in a choke hold. He placed his hands on Asun's head and began to crush. Asun's screams were quickly silenced as a loud crushing sound was heard, finishing the guard once and for all.

Gail wiped his hands on his pants, the dark red blending in with the black trousers, and nodded at Seraphim to rejoin Arc. Their pseudo-leader was flipping through the pages of the book he was carrying as he faced the mass of energy that was the Ether.

"Alright they're dead," said Seraphim, putting one hand on her hip while the other slid the bo staff back into its place on her back. "What's next for your grand plan?"

"Patience my dear," said Arc. "We need to close the Ether off first. We wouldn't want any competition for our master plan would we?"

"But I thought we needed the Ether?" asked Gail. "Shouldn't we leave the door open?"

"Listen to me you overgrown canine," said Arc bluntly. "If we left that door open, the worst of the worst would be able to follow us down to Earth. Ergo, giving us more enemies to fight off that we don't need. We'll be the only ones causing chaos on Earth, and I want it that way. Do you understand?"

"Besides," said Seraphim, trying to diffuse the tension and keep the group on task. "I have the vials of Ether energy. When we get to Earth, we can use Terran magic to achieve our goals. We just need to find a mage."

Arc coughed in Seraphin's direction. He returned his focus to muttering the incantations needed to close the Ether.

Seraphim glared Arc's way, "With all due respect Arc, you are not the strongest magic user. We need to find someone stupid enough to join us who's equally good at magic."

With a wave of his hands and an expulsion of breath, Arc turned to face the other two as he closed the book and held it at his side. The large doors to the Ether began to close behind him. Though he didn't show it, it was clear that closing the doors had taken a lot out of him. Like Seraphim had said, he was not the strongest at magic and by closing the door he had depleted himself of his own magical reserves. He knew in his heart that the female companion was right. They needed another mage.

"Alright if we follow this path here," Seraphim pointed straight ahead on the cobblestone path. "This should take us straight to the Rainbow Bridge. It's the most direct path to Earth. We'll have to fight off the guards, but I don't think that should be a problem."

Arc raised his hand in the air, "Stop Seraphim. There's something else that we need to do first."

"What?" asked Gail.

"We need to go to Iris," said Arc. "I require something."

Hall of the Guardians, Village of Iris

Iris was a rather small village. It was idyllic, like something out of a storybook. There with the small cottages around the fountain interspersed with shops, bakeries, and other locations. As you went further outside of the village, the houses began to get more and more grand. The highlight though was the Grand Chamber. It stood tall above the village, serving as a symbol for the people of Iris. It made them feel protected. They felt relieved that they had the six Guardians watching over them.

As the villagers were preparing for the celebration that would occur later that night, the Guardians were sitting in their war room inside the Chamber. They had been summoned for an emergency meeting. Despite the fact each one embodied a portion of the rainbow, the decor of the room was surprisingly subtle. The walls and floor were made of marble with tapestries hung from the wall that depicted events in Iris's history. In the center were six chairs seats in a circle. Each one was a different color of the rainbow.

"So would you care to explain why you dragged me out of my home during valuable primping time?" asked a woman seated in the Violet chair. She had pale skin that seemed to sparkle even though there was no sun shining down on her. Her purple eyes were coated with half-finished makeup, and she wore a purple caftan with gold sandals. A gold headdress covered her hair. "My daughter and I need as much time as we can to get ready."

"Valenia," said a man in green. He had olive skin that shimmered as well, along with the purest of emerald eyes and cropped hair the most vivid shade of green imaginable. He was wearing a suit of gold and green armor. "This matter is of the utmost importance."

A man in blue narrowed his eyes at the man in green before letting out a chuckle. He had light brown skin with clear blue eyes and a long light blue braid against the back of his navy robes. "Oh Garen lighten up would you? It's the Elevation we're talking about here! The night our children pledge themselves to follow in our footsteps."

Yana, a woman with shimmering tan skin and golden blonde hair pulled back in a tight bun, leaned forward with a sparkle in her yellow eyes, "Bruno this is precisely why we need this meeting. If there's been an emergency, we need to know in order to ensure that the ceremony tonight won't go wrong. Have we heard any news Olin?"

Olin, a man with dark brown skin and cropped orange hair, nodded his head. On top of being a Guardian, he was the captain of the guard. His armor signified that fact with a medal hanging from the left corner. "When it came time for the changing of the Guard this afternoon, we found two of our men lying dead in front of the Ether Gate."

Valenia's hand went to her pearls, "So there's been a breakout? That's not possible! The Ether Gate's impenetrable."

"Apparently not," said Bruno. "Do we know who got out?"

Olin shook his head, "There's so many souls behind the gate walls. It's impossible to find out who is in there in the first place."

"Where do you think they'll go next?" asked Garen. "Earth?"

"Oh I'm sure they're going to end up there eventually. That's what the dead always want to do. Get revenge on the living or conquer the human dimensions. We have to call off the party and figure this out now. It's too dangerous with three souls from the Ether running around who clearly have no qualms with murder," said Yana urgently.

"We can't cancel the party," said another male voice from the head of the table. He had light skin with serious red eyes. His red hair was brushed back. His muscles were visible from his tunic. It was clear that this man was the head of the Guardians. All eyes turned to him. "If we cancel the Elevation, we'll have six angry teenagers on our hands and a village that will want to know what's going on. If we tell them, it will only incite more panic and distract us from focusing on what's important."

"Rolan? Are you saying now is the time to transfer the Rainbow Energies to our children? When there's a time where we need our powers the most?" asked Olin.

"Our kids aren't aware of the effects of holding the Rainbow Energies! When we transfer them over, they're the ones that will have to take care of this issue. We won't be the Guardians anymore," said Yana.

"And you think we'll be able to stop them?" asked Rolan. "We all can feel it. The Energy is leaving us. Each day we grow weaker as our children grow stronger. We are not as powerful as we once were. If we were to fight whoever came out of that door, I guarantee that not all of us would come back alive. The Bridge is making the message clear. We need to pass on our powers."

"But our kids' safety," cried Valenia. "They're too green."

Rolan nodded, "I'm aware, but something has to be done. The Rainbow Bridge is calling for a new team of Power Rangers."

Long time no see! I finished my first year of college! I'm hoping that I'll be able to find a better balance between writing and school next semester. Anyways this came about because I wanted to collaborate with Fool Arcana Kaiju again, and this is the story we came up with. It's a bit Toqger and Kakuranger inspired with what I have planned in the story further on. Anyways here are the guidelines for the OC contest down below!

You may submit one OC. If you wish to submit another for an opposite gender, ask me first.

I will only accept OC's through PM. OC's via review will not be counted. Send your OC's to me or Fool Arcana Kaiju.

Please follow the vague descriptions I gave of the parents when planning your character's looks.

Your OC should embody the word assigned to the color in some way (for narrative purposes)

Red- Strength
