A very small little girl was running through the snowy woods. Really she was doing more falling than running, but she was trying to run. She was tiny: small and extremely skinny. She had cuts and bruises all over her, and wore thin raggedy clothes.

When she reached the large rock, she grinned up at the man who sat there. He was holding a rather large steaming thermos full of tomato soup.

Logan smiled down at the little girl, picking her up and setting her on the rock beside him. "Here ya go, nice warm soup."

She didn't say anything, she never said anything, but her smile made up for it. And her eyes, her huge brown eyes… reminded him of… of…

Of Marie. Yes, they reminded him of Marie. His eyes betrayed the firm face and showed his sadness.

The little girl looked up questioningly at him. She always noticed even the slightest change in his mood.

"Oh, it's nothing."

She didn't seem convinced.

Logan sighed. He didn't even know why he'd taken to feeding this little thing. But he had, he'd fed her for 3 days now and she'd never missed a meal. "It's… this girl that… I left back at… where I used to live." He hung his head. "I miss her I guess."

The girl smiled, seeming to understand. She wrapped her little arms around him as far as she could reach and gave him a hug.

Logan just sat there, not quite sure what to make of the hug. After a moment he hugged her back.

"What's yer name?" he tried for the 5th time.

She just stared up at him with those eyes… those brown eyes just like Mar…

He couldn't guess why she never said anything, but he did guess that wherever she lived, they weren't feeding her there.

She'd finished the entire thermos full of soup and smiled up at him. She had the greatest smile, Logan had decided, second only to Marie's.

All of a sudden she hopped up and made a motion with her hands. She waved at him and started back the way she'd come.

This time he followed her.

Logan didn't think she wanted him to follow her. He didn't have to be very careful though, at the rate her tiny figure was scurrying he had no trouble keeping a fair distance behind.

She finally reached a small cabin in the wood. It was about as broken down as you could imagine, the only sign that someone had lived there within the past 50 years was the smoke coming form the chimney.

He heard a great yell when she entered the cabin, followed by what he figured to be the little girl shrieking.

Logan marched right up to the door and knocked. It was a few minutes before an obviously drunk man opened the door. He held a shotgun in one hand and looked menacing. "Wha d'you want?" he slurred.

"I want…" Logan stopped. He smelled blood. It didn't take long to spot the little girl covering in a corner, her nose bleeding. She looked scared. "I want to talk to your little girl."

The man looked confused, but then seemed to almost understand. "Talk? Her? She ain't talk ever. Can't."

Logan growled. He shook his head, totally out of patience. So much for keeping a low profile…

He walked past the drunk man, grabbing the rifle. The man looked a little stunned, but he was staggering so badly he couldn't do anything about it.

Logan picked up the little girl, who was now staring at him, wide eyed. "It's ok, I'm going to take you somewhere safe." He spoke slowly, hoping she'd understand. She responded with a smile, so he assumed she had.
