Ogiwara hummed, excited to spend the day with his best friend. Just a few blocks more and he would be there but the sight of those familiar small black metal gates made him sprint into a run. Finger pressed against the door bell without hesitation.
The door opened to reveal Kuroko's grandmother, Teru, her lips turning into a smile once she recognized the visitor. "Ah, Shige-kun. Good morning, are you here for Tecchan? Please come on in."
The boy grinned before following the elderly woman's small form into the house.
"Tecchan, Shige-kun is here!" Teru hollered. A muffled thud from upstairs was her only hint that the boy heard her. She nodded. Ah, her grandson was such an energetic kid.
"Would you like some cake while you wait?" she offered. "It seems Tecchan will take a while."
"Uwah! Thanks Teru-obaachan," Ogiwara said.

If the slice of cake was a living thing, it would have scared at the sight of Ogiwara, eyes sparkling, a drool hanging from his mouth.
"Thank you for the meal!" And he attacked with no mercy.
"Shige-kun eats anything," Teru commented, happy to see the boy was enjoying the food. "It is a good thing there's still some slices left from the birthday celebration yesterday."
Ogiwara almost choked, thumped his chest repeatedly before grabbing a glass of water. After recovering, he turned to the elderly woman, eyes wide in disbelief. "Birthday!"
"Oh, Tecchan didn't tell you? That boy doesn't tell anything unless necessary."
But these words went deaf as Ogiwara drowned in his internal conflict.
Why didn't Kuroko tell him about his birthday? Wasn't he a good friend? Was it because he made fun of his height last time? Was this his punishment? No!
"Good morning," Kuroko greeted, emerging through the kitchen door, droopy eyes and hair still disheveled form sleep.
Ogiwara took this opportunity to grab Kuroko's shoulders. "I'm sorry!"
"Eh?"
"I'll make it up to you!"
Even in his current state, Kuroko knew that Ogiwara was making no sense. "Ogiwara-kun, what are you talking about?"
Ogiwara grabbed Kuroko's hand and started dragging him away, determined to make things right. "Don't worry Kuroko. I'll buy you the largest cup of vanilla milkshake available."
"Wait—"
"It'll be my treat!"
Teru waved as she watched her grandson got dragged away.
"Such energetic boys. But I wonder why Shige-kun is all fired up? I only mentioned about my son's birthday."
