Chapter 1

Run. Don't stop. It'll get you. It'll get you like it got your parents.

Luke raced through the shrubbery, frantically searching.

"Where is it? Where is it, damn it?"

A crash came from a few yards behind him. One of the tall pine trees that surrounded him burst into flame. "It's getting closer," Luke said to himself. He turned around in desperation. He had to find it.

A wall of flame suddenly erupted in front of Luke. He narrowly missed it and swerved left, searing the messenger bag which was hanging around him. "Shit.. That was expensive," He silently cursed to himself. "How the hell is it so hard to find a tree in a fucking forest?"

Suddenly, a smooth, dark voice rang inside his head.

"Luke Pierce. Cease your running immediately. I promise you a quick death if you comply,"

"Screw you,"

"You have forced my hand, mortal. Goodbye, Luke Pierce,"

One by one, the trees around Luke exploded into wooden shrapnel, each piece big enough to completely impale him. Luke dove forward and braced himself for the dagger-like tree shrapnel, but they never came. He looked up and saw a teenage girl around his age holding up a shield.

"You should be careful out here. You never know when some random monster could come waltzing by," The girl said sarcastically

Shell-shocked, Luke couldn't respond. A dozen thoughts were racing through his mind.

Who...what...Is that a shield!?

"Umm, hey there buddy, if you'd please hurry up,"

"H-huh? Oh, yeah."

Luke stumbled after the mystery girl. She led him to a tall pine tree that he was surprised he hadn't noticed when he first got there. Furthermore, he noticed what seemed to be a camp of sorts behind the tree.

"Woah, bro. That tree's huge! How the hell did I miss that!?"Luke gawked.

"Well? Hurry up, now. You wouldn't want to get your knockers burnt up now, would you?"

They were just about to enter the camp when a colossal fire ball was launched towards them.

"Run! Inside, quickly!" The girl exclaimed.

The girl and Luke sprinted into the camp just as the fireball landed. It burst into a thousand fiery napalms which were about to hit them, but somehow they were deflected by a hidden barrier.

"Wait. What? W-why didn't...I'm confused," Luke stuttered

"This is why I hate newcomers like yourself," She sighed irritably.

"Newcomers?"

"Well, newbie, I would like to informally welcome you to Camp Half Blood," She said with an over exaggerated gesture.

"That still hasn't answered any of my questions,"

She sighed. "Just be patient, newbie. Chiron will explain everything to you later. But for now, let's just find you a place to stay,"

"Okay?" Luke said reluctantly.

She led him to a clearing nearby. There were 12 large buildings in an open field, surrounded by several smaller buildings. There, she brought him to one of the larger, more noisy buildings.

"Welcome to your new home. This is where you'll be staying for a while," She said

"Thanks for this, I guess. Oh, I never got your name!"

She stared at Luke for a few moments then laughed.

"It's Skye. Skye Greene," She replied.

"Skye Greene. Got it,"

She chuckled. "Well, I guess I'll let you meet your new cabin mates. See you later, newbie," She chuckled then walked off somewhere.

"Cabin mates, huh? What could possibly go wrong?"
