In another of many tragic twists of fate that the gods have become so akin to in the eons of toying in the delicate lives of humanity... Athena was angered, not by the sickening brutality of Poseidon, his actions that left Medusa twisted and broken, left in this state. But for the frail woman that lay before her, looking up at her, pain and anguish in her eyes... looking for the slightest form of compassion. Athena shouted out, "How dare you! Wretched woman, befouling this place, my sacred place of worship!" Medusa tried to speak, a slur of words trying to form on the tip of her broken tongue, she couldn't believe this was happening... How dare she? Poseidon did this! He... forced her, with such strength and brutality, he broke her... Athena cut her off once more. "Your words mean nothing to me, whore." "For this... punishment with be swift." "You'll wish Poseidon had finished you off." As these words left her cold lips, Athena casted a curse upon Medusa, her long hair falling out in clumps, the look in her eyes changing from a look of tearful betrayal to a burning hatred as they transformed from the once twinkling eyes of an innocent girl, full of hope to the cold stare likened to that of a hideous snake. Her smooth skin becoming rigid... and breaking into something akin to scales? Disgusting ripples of skin began to sweep her body. Her hatred grew deeper... forsaken by the gods by their cruelty and selfishness. Finally... snakes hissing and spitting began to sprout from her head, furthering her monstrous appearance. Athena began to dissipate, seemingly satisfied by the curse she placed upon the once innocent girl. Medusa was left there... stewing in her hatred for the gods. Her monstrous form was stumbled upon by an unknowing bystander, making temple rounds. Medusa cast her gaze upon him, searing with hatred. Before the man could even let out a shriek he was flashed to stone, shocked expression forever frozen on his face. From that day on, challengers would approach the monstrosity she had become, aiming to slay the beast she had become and one by one, her collection of statues grew. Her hatred for the gods solidified, and there she swore she would get her revenge on the gods that had so selfishly forsaken her.
