Fourth year was when I realized I was in love. At first I thought it was a school girl crush that every girl goes through. I thought that I would eventually go away. By the time fifth year started, I knew I was in love with my best friend.
A I sit on the couch in the Head's common room, trying to read for Professor Snape's assignment, but my mind kept wandering to that raven-haired boy that I came to love. I wish I could tell him, but I know I just can't. Risking our friendship that means so much to me, just because I was being selfish, thinking of my feelings when obviously he doesn't return them.
My thoughts were interrupted as I hear the portrait swing open. I try my best to focus on the book in front of me. I was afraid that if I looked into his eyes he could read what was on my mind, him. Your eyes are the windows to your soul, right?
"Hey 'Mione." I hear his voice next to me on the couch. My heart begins to beat faster. "Hello Harry." I try to sound as calm as I can.
"I was wondering, would you like to take a walk? It's snowing and I know you love the snow, and you could use a break from all of that homework." I look up at Harry and see his infamous grin. I couldn't say no to that. I smiled and said, "I'll go put my homework in my dorm and grab my coat." He gave me his grin again as I walked past him to our dorms.
While we were walking along the path to the now frozen lake, the crisp freshly-fallen snow crunching with every step we took, I realized Harry was acting quite odd. But I quickly dismissed it as we made our way underneath our tree. There wasn't any snow around the trunk of the tree, because the leaves and the branches were blocking the snow from touching the ground.
As we sat down, I looked at the beautiful landscape. The lake frozen, making perfect ice fro ice skaters, the sun just about the set, making the sky different shades of pinks, purples, and reds. It stopped snowing about a few minutes after we left the castle. The clouds were beginning to disappear. Since it was Christmas break, there weren't that many people out, making the scenery picture-perfect.
As I was looking at the scenery, I noticed Harry had started staring at me. My heart began to beat faster. "I hope he can't hear it." I thought. Harry had this intense look, just staring into my eyes. I blushed and looked away, avoiding his eyes.
After a few moments pause, he startles me, "You're beautiful, 'Mione." I look at Harry, surprised. "I'm far from beautiful Harry, you don't have to say things that aren't true."
He looks hurt. "But it's the truth. You are really beautiful." I blush and look back up at Harry and realize how close we are. Our faces just inches apart. Harry closes the space between us. For a moment I am shocked, but then I begin to kiss back. His hands wrap around my waist and pulled me into his lap in one fluid motion. I entangle my hands in his hair. I am in pure bliss, hoping to Merlin that this isn't a dream.
Harrys the first to pull back. He rests his forehead to mine and whispers the three words I have waited for a such a long time to hear. "I love you, 'Mione"
"And I love you back, Mr. Potter." I said with a grin. He grins back at me and takes my hand and we run up to our common room, where we warm up by the fire.
