The Yearly 365 Challenge

Prompt #356 (Gene) Angst

"Why are you so mad at me?" Veronica frowned at the stiffness of Betty's back. "Seriously what have I done this time to piss you off with me?" When Betty refused to answer her. "How do I know how much money do I have to spend for you to forgive me?"

Betty quickly turned around. "If you think that you have to buy my friendship Veronica Lodge then you aren't my friend after all." She stormed her arms folded tightly across her chest.

"At least you are finally talking to me." Veronica sighed deeply.

Betty closed her eyes as her fingers gripped the bridge of her nose. "Just shut up Ronnie." She sighed out.

Veronica's eyes widen. Okay this is serious. B would never flat out tell me to shut up. What have I done? She tried desperately to think of what she could have done to hurt Betty this time.

"Don't even go there," Betty roughly stated. "not every single thing about my anger issues has to do with Archie Andrews!"

Veronica blinked. "Isn't it through?" Her eyes narrowed. "I wasn't even thinking about Archie or ..." She shook her head. "You know something never mind." She walked over and sat down on the couch. "All I want to know is why you are so angry with me?"

"I'm not angry at you." Betty said in a harsh voice.

"Could surprise me." Veronica's right eyebrow rose high on her forehead. "Could have fucking surprise me Betty." Her frustrations making itself known finally.

Betty turned her back on Veronica. She stared out of the bay window into the storm raging outside. The storm that was raging within was just as painful as the one that everyone other person was expericing.

"Please talk to me B." Veronica's soft voice spoke.

"I'm allowed to be angry just like everyone else." Betty goaned.

"I know that." Veronica stood to her feet. She walked to stand next to her best friend at the window.

"I'm allowed to be angry and not have everyone one think that I will go wacko." Anger laced her face as she stared out into the storm outside. "I'm allowed to be angry and not be afraid of myself." Tears rolled down her cheeks. "I'm allowed to be a human being for fucking shakes."

Veronica reached over and placed her hand on Betty's shoulder.

Betty jerked away. Her eyes meeting the chocolate ones for the first time in over two hours. "Don't you dare touch me." She grounded out. "Don't!"

Veronica's eyes widen. "B."

"Don't B me Veronica Lodge." Betty snarled. "I don't need you to fucking calm me down. I'm no near close enough to snap." She breathed quickly. "I don't always need you to always have to fix fucking things for me." She shook her head.

Veronica held her palm up. "Okay." She nodded her head. "Okay."

"You didn't need to …." Tears of frustration rolled down her cheeks. Betty head lowered. "I can defend myself you know." Her arms cross her waist as she pulled within herself.

Veronica stepped forward. She reached up to cup her best friend's face in the palms of her hands. She felt the blonde stiffen and start to move. She gently stroked the skin with the thumbs. Betty stilled as she allowed her to finally to touch her once more. "I'm not going to apoloize for coming to your defense B. That's simply not how this works."

Betty eyes softened. "I'm sorry V." She sighed as she stepped closer to the shorter brunette. Resting her head against Veronica's warm neck. Her arms wrapped around so she could pull the other girl as close to her as she could. Her eyes closed as she allowed Veronica to calm her.
