"Corto Maltese"

A/N: This story takes place after Jimmy Olsen dumped Chloe.
Chapter One: The Trip
It was a hot Saturday afternoon as Chloe Sullivan arrived at the airport heading to the Corto Maltese region of Cagliari, a town in Sardinia, which was an island off of Italy. She was particularly happy that she was given this assignment after Jimmy hit her hard with his thoughts about Chloe still having feelings for Clark and leaving her.
Chloe knew that there was no way for her to have Clark to look at her in any other way than a friend, so she decided she needed a change of scenery.
The Chief at the Daily Planet basically dropped this assignment in her lap, seeing as how there was no one who wanted to cover the crisis that was happening in Corto Maltese.
While sitting in a chair at the waiting area outside of her gate, Chloe reached into her bag and pulled out the file concerning the crisis itself.
In 1914, a dictator by the name of General Francisco Bellas, one of the men who helped Mussolini rise to his power in the early thirties, seized control of the island and reeked havoc on it's populace. After being assassinated in 1964 by an uprising, his son, Gillermo Bellas took control and maintained a certain peace up until the 1980's. His influence was being corrupted by outside interests and soon another uprising by the populace was being underway. It was then that his second-in-command, Lieutenant Felippe Gatrosche had him exiled and put the entire island hostage, demanding that the citizens stopped their revolting or to perish. This was met by a sudden storm into the heart of Cagliari and the Lieutenant then ordered a mass bombing of the surrounding area. To this day, Gatrosche is still in power and is still tormenting the citizens and bribing the Italian government into paying a hefty ransom for the safety of the people.
Closing the folder, and shaking a little in disgust over the atrocity of the facts, Chloe put it away and took out her CD, just before someone tapped her on the shoulder.
"Hey, there cutie."
She turned and noticed that there wasn't anyone there. Turning her head back around she spotted a spiky-haired guy with a red hoodie grinning at her.
"Bart?" She asked.
Bart Starr grinned, "I thought you'd recognize me." He then looked around, "Where's Clark?"
Chloe smiled, "He's not here, Bart. It's just me. Are you going anywhere?"
Bart smiled, "Depends. Are you going anywhere?"
Chloe nodded, "I'm covering a story over in Italy."
"Where at?" He asked.
"Corto Maltese region of Sardina." She replied.
Bart grinned, "Be back in a flash."
Chloe noticed a sudden red-ish blur and then, after rubbing her eyes, she saw him exactly where he was before.
"What a coincidence. So am I." He said, showing her his ticket.
