A/N: Written for the Mega Prompts Challenge, #493 – wreck
the tragedy that'd been waiting in the wings
They'd been waiting for it, so why was it still a tragedy?
His parents were crying. Broken. Why?
Why was he crying, for that matter? Why was he such a wreck? Tears streaming down his face, fingers scrunching his neat black suit, body shaking – They'd all known it would happen. They'd been expecting it. Waiting for it.
Though, of course, not one of them wanted it, and maybe that was the difference. They hadn't wanted the inevitable, that thing they'd known would happen.
And that was why their hearts broke, even though they'd been warned well in advance.
Not one of them there had wanted that dying boy to die.
