A/N: Oneshot. Complete. Originally part of Random Ficlets, which I decided to delete. I wanted to post each story contained there as its own story. Originally posted forever ago. Just something random I thought of last night while eating dinner. First-Animeverse. End-of-series, pre-COS.


"Dad?"

Hohenheim turned, unused to hearing his oldest son sounding so... timid. "Yes, Edward?"

"Can... I... stay with you?" Edward mumbles into his chest as he stared at the floor. He felt completely humiliated. 'I swore I would never ask this bastard for help...'

The older man looked at the younger, eyes wide with surprise, but still glowing with happiness. He was almost tempted to ask Edward to repeat himself, pretending he couldn't quite hear the request. But one look at the red face of his offspring was enough to quash that notion. 'This must be hard for him...' He smiled softly, tilting his head. "Of course, I would never turn my son anyway. But I thought you hated me."

"I do hate you, because you always turn yourself away from others rather than turning them away from you." The young man's blush deepened. "It's just..." He sighed, finally raising his face to meet his father's gaze, admitting with a strained voice, "You're the only person I know here..."
