It was just another sunset on Sunset Hill, but it was not. They sat together, the red-haired young man and the blond teenager. Blue eyes looked up at him, smiling. "Look, it's the same color as your hair," he said, pointing up at the red sunset.
"Let's meet again, in the next life."
He growled and punched the blond playfully in the arm. A mock-fight ensued, with them chasing each other until they were out of breath.
"Silly. Just because you have a next life."
They settled back down on the hill. The sun was gone now; the sky was fading to a midnight blue. They leaned on each other. The blue eyes closed, his breathing slowed into a steady rhythm, as his head slumped forward.
"He made me feel….like I had a heart."
He touched the blond hair. It was soft and warm.
"That's what happens when you put your whole being into an attack."
"Is this…real?" he whispered. "I thought that…that…"
"You and I both miss someone we care about."
He was silent. The sky was an inky black now, spotted here and there with stars. The wind sighed softly in the grass, melting with the boy's breathing. He'd never seen such a perfect night.
"Let's meet again..."
He must have shifted while he was thinking. The blond stirred and muttered. He laughed. "Hey, hey calm down. I'm not going anywhere."
"…in the next life."
