Cody's Mask

I don't own Cody or Dusty, but I do own Poppy.

Cody Rhodes was sat in his locker room, he hated the mask he was wearing and was avoiding everybody that came past him when he made his way to the ring.

Poppy Dawson had noticed the sadness that Cody was showing, she waited until the time was right to say something to Cody.

Cody had done his piece in the ring with his Dad and Rey and the scene backstage with his Dad and retreated quickly back to his locker room. He really didn't want to be stared at.

Poppy had a quick word with Dusty and made her way to Cody's locker room, she quietly knocked on the door.

"Go Away." Was all Poppy heard.

Poppy opened the door and her heart broke at the sight in front of her, Cody was crying.

She sat on the bench next to him and gently touched his right shoulder.

"Why are you here?" Cody asked.

"I wanted to see how you were, you didn't hang around long." Poppy replied rubbing her hand over the top of Cody's back.

"You can see why I don't want to hang around." Cody said as he got up.

Poppy stood up and stood in front of Cody, who was desperately trying to hide the mask again.

"Not everybody is staring." Poppy said as she lifted up Cody's chin with her finger.

"I admire you for going out to the ring, it can't have been easy for you to display this mask to the whole world." Poppy said as she looked in to Cody's eyes.

"You mean that." Cody said

"Of course I do." Poppy said as she wiped away a tear off Cody's face.

Cody couldn't believe that someone would stand by him in such a difficult time; he hugged Poppy and let the tears fall.

Poppy was holding back her tears, but stayed strong for Cody.

They didn't hear Dusty come into Cody's locker room, until he cleared his voice.

"Hi Dad." Cody looked sheepishly at his Dad.

"Hi Son, I just wanted to see how you were holding up, but I see Poppy has beaten me too it." Dusty said as both Cody and Poppy blushed.

It became awkward between them all.

"I'll leave you both to it." Dusty said and left quietly."

"Maybe we should go back to the hotel, where we can't be interrupted as easily." Cody suggested

"Yeah, we can talk some more." Poppy said and held on to Cody's hand.

As they walked down the corridor, not everybody was looking at Cody's mask, but when Cody thought someone was staring, Poppy squeezed his hand to reassure him that she was there beside him to get through it.

The ride to the hotel was quiet, Cody was staring out the window, thinking. Poppy looked across at Cody and squeezed his hand, Cody looked over sometimes, other times not.

Poppy pulled in the hotel and grabbed her bag while Cody picked his up and made their way to the elevator, when the doors opened Poppy pushed the button for the 5th floor and they stood quietly in the elevator, the doors pinged to let them know they were on the 5th floor and Poppy pulled Cody out of the elevator and towards her room.

Poppy opened the door and let Cody in first, as she closed the door and turned to face Cody, she didn't expect him to kiss her.

"Not that I am complaining, but what was that for." Poppy asked surprised

"I have wanted to do that all night." Cody replied.

"When you came in to my locker room, you were so sweet and caring; I was hoping that you would have kissed me earlier." Cody said as he blushed furiously.

Poppy held on to Cody's hands

"I have to admit, that when I first saw you, I immediately had a crush on you." Poppy said as she leant on her tip toes to kiss Cody.

Cody broke the kiss and looked in to Poppy's eyes

"I had a crush on you, but I didn't think that you would even look at me." Cody said as he rested his forehead on Poppy's, just taking in what each other had said.

"Would you be my girlfriend?" Asked Cody

"Yes, I would love to be your girlfriend." Poppy replied and kissed Cody with more passion, but not so much to cause any pain.
