Behind The Shattered Mirror

The light blinded me for a second, making me confused. Hadn't I just been floating in darkness? My eyes adjusted slowly, lights dancing across my vision as I tried to remember who I was. The faces in front of me blurred when I tried to focus. My life seemed pointless to me. Why couldn't I have just died?

A girl leaned closer, red hair falling into her eyes. She was not the person I wanted to see right then. The image blurred in my mind, almost as if he had never been. Only one thing ran through my mind as the people around me started talking. I only cared about him, but I couldn't remember who he was.

Ten Years Later

I looked at the school, wondering why Professor McGonagall wanted to ever try having a reunion for those that were left from my year. I shook my head, glancing at Ginny, who was talking about something that I had no will to focus on.

Even since the battle, my mind had been shattered beyond repair. I wasn't able to focus on things directly and I mostly zoned Ginny out when she started rambling about nothing. Maybe something was wrong with me as I didn't even car for the person I was dating.

My mind settled on the image of the blond haired boy, cracks spreading over it. The name played at the edge of my thoughts for a moment as I tried to focus but it jumped down a hole. It was always like that now, always happened that way. I had lost more than just my family to Voldemort. I had lost most of my sanity as well.

Ginny had pulled me into the Great Hall, which had been lit by candles. My eyes sifted, catching sight of a blond haired man that reminded me of the man in my mind, always dancing away from me.

"I can't believe they even let Malfoy come back," Ginny commented, turning to watch me.

"Malfoy?" The name seemed strangely familiar but I couldn't quite place it, the picture of the boy flashing through my mind yet again.

"Draco Malfoy," She replied.

The man, Draco, glanced over at us, smiling and waving. "He seems nice now," I mumbled.

"I bet he just wants to gloat," She grunted.

"Hey Draco, Ginny, how have you been?" Draco asked, walking over to us.

I noticed he seemed different and more normal. "I'm doing well," I replied, mind turning.

"It's been a while," Draco noted.

"Has it?" I asked blankly. I didn't remember him from school.

"Ten years at least," Draco confirmed.

"I'm sorry; I don't remember you," I blinked, my version blurring to only focus on him.

"I know," Draco whispered, moving closer and resting his hand on my cheek.

"Why?" I asked, not moving.

"It is what you wanted," He said softly. "Join me and you'll see," He added.

"I'll go," I promised.

"You are shattered," Draco said, kissing me. The Great Hall shattered, as if it was a giant mirror, showing the darkness beneath us. I followed him into the darkness, seeing the memories from my past clearly again before they shattered under my gaze.
