"Mordecai, Lilith, even the beserk Brick all are dead now."
"We defeated the Destroyer, we fought off a zombie infestation deep within the dark Jakob's Cove, we challenged ourself at Moxxi's Underdome time and time agian, we even sought revenge on the Atlas corporation - my former employers."
"Over time, our battles took their toll on our bodies. We were too weak to stop the Claptrap Robolution, yet we did it anyway, not for the glory, not for the money as everyone suspects. We did it because this odd, wastlandish planet has become our home. My home."
"It's time to discover more of my home, and discover why the New-U stations mysteriously stopped working after Hyperion asked us to stop the Robolution.."
The dark-skinned figure speaks to himself as the taste of salt overwhelms his tongue. He wanders aimlessly through the Salt Flats - Former home of Baron Flynt. Bandits still occupy the area, but seem to be unsure of themselves with their self-proclaimed leader out of comission for good. The only real threat still proves to be the Atlas soldiers, few as they are.
Our lone traveler finds his way to the nearest Catch-a-Ride station and loads up a blackened Runner, scarred from previous battles and midnight runs through the Dahl Headlands and these very same Salt Flats.
As his ride is summoned, a Psycho enters the area and immediately begins to rush toward him. Quickly, he unloads one round from a powerful combat rifle into the Psycho's head and watches him fall to the ground.
"I've heard of a place, Helena Pierce mentioned it, known as Sanctuary. It became a war zone in the Atlas invasion. They say it fell, but Helena Pierce went there after the Destroyer was, well, destroyed."
So, he jumps into the driver seat and sets off across the Flats towards where he believes this Sanctuary to be.
"Brick, you got the rocket laun-," He is cut short by his own mind.
His friends are all gone, and his silence resumes as he now races towards an old sign laying in decay by a huge, armored wall. The sign reads: "S-ct-r-"
He steps down from the vehicle to investigate was once was an old transportation display in front of the wall, it seems to be malfunctioned. He kicks the display and notices a spark fly from it. He knows of only one robot who can fix this and so he uses his Echo device to call up his old friend, Claptrap.
The moon begins to rise in the sky as the sun falls. Nighttime is setting in and the Salt Flats is an eerie place to be settled into during this time. Roland knows that, and so he barricades a small shack with the use of his Runner and some extra supplies lying around. He lays himself on the ground to sleep for the night, hoping the Claprap will have arrived by morning.
"Sanctuary. I'm so close to the answers I need. I won't let my friends down, and I will do everything it takes to get these systems working again."
An eerie scream echoes in the distance, towards an area known as the Descent. Roland shrugs it off, knowing the fierce Guardians all too well, and begins to slip into his dreams.
