A/N: Based on fanart I saw! Enjoy! :)
Everyone always knew there was chemistry between Aang and Katara. It was a given. But lately, they had been visually closer than usual. Not as open as they wanted to be, but it was sure a change in their relationship. Of course, Sokka had already caught them kissing. And Zuko had spotted them holding hands on the way home from the Earth King's celebration. But it was never official. And that's what Aang wanted. For it to be official.
"I think we need to tell them." Aang said firmly, walking out on the balcony of the Jasmine Dragon to talk to Katara.
"What? Tell them what?" Katara sat up. She was laying on the balcony, feeling the moon's power radiate on her. It warmed her skin and made her feel strong. The sensation was almost too much to bare when Katara first discovered her abilities. But she grew to love it, and every night she would do this as if to recharge her energy. It was almost addicting. But that was a different story.
"About us. About..what we are…" Aang drifted off, unsure about how to express his concerns.
Katara stood up, walking over to Aang. "Well, what are we?"
He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.
"It doesn't matter Aang. At least we understand what we are. Why do we need to label it? We're perfect the way we are." Katara smiled, fitting her fingers in the spaces between his.
"But we should…I don't know…announce it. Make it official." Aang rubbed the back of his neck.
"Why? Because you need to claim me as your girlfriend?! Is this some sort of male dominace—"
"No. Not at all." Aang said firmly, staring into Katara's eyes. "It's because I want to know that you feel the same way."
"Of course I do Aang! But why do we need to—"
"And that everyone else knows too. I want everyone to know the way I feel about you."
Katara exhaled, smiling. "Okay."
They sat there for a moment, hands intertwined, looking at each other with all the love in the world.
"How should we deal with this?" Katara asked after a moment, looking down at the ground.
"I have no idea." Aang said, shaking his head.
Katara glanced at Aang, eyes filled with worry. "What if…What if they don't except us? What if they don't approve?"
But Aang smiled, grasping her hands tenderly. "Of course they will. And if they don't at first, they'll come around."
Katara smiled back, blushing slightly. She placed a timid kiss on Aang's cheek. Aang still blushed, even though this act was nothing new.
"You ready?"
"I'm ready."
Both of their hearts began to beat wildly as they stood up to enter the tea shop where their friends were. They walked slow, hand-in-hand. When they reached the shop, everyone was doing their usual things. Zuko was playing Pai Sho with Iroh. Mai watched. Toph was picking her toes. Sokka was sitting with Suki, talking away. Aang gulped. He couldn't believe how nervous he was. It was worse than facing the Fire Lord. Katara and Aang exchanged a half-smile, worried yet excited. But no one noticed them standing there. Katara cleared her throat. Everyone continued to ignore them. She cleared it again, this time much louder. Everyone stopped and looked at the couple. Katara felt her face get hot.
"Um…" She started, voice trailing off.
Aang butted in. "Guess what, everyone! Katara and I are —"
"ITS ABOUT TIME!"
