"Are you sure you want to do this?" Amber eyes studied the figure wearily.
"Yes," the small silhouette replied.
"You realize after this you can never change your decision."
"I have thought on the consequences and I am willing to accept them," the young woman stated, no emotions in here viridian eyes.
'My apprentice…never would have thought she would do such a thing,' the elder woman thought bitterly, 'but why?'
"You request will be decided by the council in the next session and the fate of this will be left in their hands."
"Thank you," the younger woman said stonily and stood. She bowed stiffly and turned with every intention to leave, the elder woman's voice stopped her.
"Sakura…why? Why would you do this?"
"There…there's nothing left for me, Tsunade-sama," the girl's voice quavered slightly.
"So you're going to turn your back on the way of the shinobi? I had hoped I had taught you better then this," Tsunade was becoming desperate.
"Hokage-sama, without my team…"Sakura trailed off, "I've lost so many."
"Sakura, you're not the only one that has lost. Think of Kakashi, his teammates and his mentor. Sasuke, his entire family was wiped out because of shinobi. Or even Naruto, he came into this game with nothing partially because of the shinobi way."
"I'm not Kakashi, Sasuke, or Naruto!" Sakura whispered, " I grew up in a civilian family no way affiliated with shinobi. I had a family for most of my life and I was close to them! Hell, I grew close to my teammates too! And now they're all gone!" Tsunade closed her eyes and ignored her student's outburst.
"But all three of them continued on. Naruto had no one, no support, but he went on with no one in his corner to begin with."
"…"the girl was silent.
"If this is your decision, Sakura, so be it," Tsunade stated softly, "You may go now."
Sakura stood for a moment longer before exiting the office swiftly leaving a gleaming hitae-ate on the desk of her former mentor. Tsunade stared at it for a time before taking a large drink from a bottle of sake.
"Sakura…"
"Haruno Sakura. The Council has reviewed your request to leave your shinobi following for life as a civilian," a nameless elder droned on.
"…we are truly saddened by this ruling, but we are allowing you to be respectfully stripped of your title as Jounin and shinobi. You will never be able to reverse this request, you do understand this Haruno-san?"
"Hai, I do," Sakura nodded as she addressed the Council.
"Very well. Haruno Sakura, by decree of the Council you are to be stripped of your status of Jounin and of you title as a shinobi of Konoha. Dismissed." The Council members shuffled out of the room and Sakura left the building.
"I'm finally free," she murmured to herself as she breathed in the fresh cool air.
She smiled lightly as she began her long walk home at a leisurely pace.
